His move to Juventus gave him the status of a legend that we were only permitted a glimpse of when he put in an appearance for Wales. And that was, of course, a great era in Welsh football - culminating in reaching the quarter-finals of the 1958 World Cup.My grandad said that John Charles was the best player he EVER EVER saw play. Reckoned he was better than Matthews, Charlton, Pele, Best, Puskas.....in fact, anyone he'd ever seen. Can you vouch for this Lord B?

I think the fact that his appearances in Wales were so rare simply enhanced his god-like status. His representative on earth was his brother, Mel, who played for Swansea Town (and, later, Arsenal) and, like John, could play at both centre half and centre forward. Being great in both positions was the ambition of every nipper in those days.
All time hero is Bobby Charlton, brilliant player and a first class gent, shows you just how far modern day footballers have fallen.
Daglish for me. Why I always wanted/want to be number 7
Was very disappointed when I grew up and realised what a dull fucker he is.
Skills tho
I WANTED to be like Steve Penney.
