My folks are right sticklers for people not taking their shoes off. They refuse to even let the gas man check our meter, because he refuses to remove footwear on H&S grounds.

I always take my shoes off when I enter my own or someone else's home.

This for me,

But saying that it depends on their flooring, carpets yes, wood, depends if it's wet outside or not.

Very much this.
Wouldn't dream of going into someone's house with shoes on.
Likewise having spent many £1000's on carpets would not let people walk on them in shoes !!!
in my hallways and stone floor areas yes i don't mind, but not on the carpet areas.

When entering someone's home I follow the lead.. If they're wearing shoes I'll keep mine on.

You can normally tell as soon as you step into a house whether you should remove footwear to not!

Same for us. In Japan you just DON`t wear your shoes indoors - it would be like taking a dump on the living room floor. So when back in UK my missus insists on same rules. My dear old Mum and Dad just won`t do it though. Don`t know why and I certainly wouldn`t insist in their case.

Do you,
Ask them to remove their shoes or are you not bothered????

Couldn't give a sxxt. We have WHITE carpets throughout, but in my view, guests are exempt from shoe rules unless obviously filthy. Mrs does not agree though!
