It's naive to think we won't be relegated at some point but I think our model would put us in a great position to come straight back up then maybe yo-yo between the leagues for while.

We'd have talent in our academy and on the periphery of the first team that barely register with the fans who would be incredibly strong performers in the championship add to that the inevitable fire sale, parachute payments we'd be very strong IMO.

I'll go for 27/28

RDZ leaves at end of 24/25 after failing to qualify for Europe again.

Maverick managerial appointment that doesn't work out in 25/26, gets fired, a few players start to leave and not replaced with same quality.

26/27 new manager bumbling around lower mid table not really up to much.

27/28 no improvement in results, manager fired part way through season but doesn't stop relegation.

Okay seems a bit far fetched.
Certainly does. You have completely missed the appointment of Fat Sam.

Does remaining in the division when the top 8 are detached to form what I call a "super league" count as being relegated? Asking for a Spanish friend.

It will happen at some point, surely. But the longer the current trend goes on, the less likely it is. Many clubs have had a few good seasons in a row before and must have thought they'd never go down again (Southampton etc) but did any of them really have the foundations and long-term plan and strategy that we do? I don't think so. A change of ownership could completely change things, but hopefully that won't happen any time soon.

All the while TB is our leader I don’t believe we will. The gulf between the championship and the PL is also getting larger by the season making in theory only one relegation spot for the existing clubs.
Classic example of me reading something and agreeing and thinking that makes perfect sense, and then checking the facts and finding out it is nonsense- last season out of the 3 teams relegated, none were promoted the year before.

Did anyone bounce my prediction on East Stand Chat in 1983 when I said 'we'd be back'. I clearly stated it would be 2017 and that by 2023 we'd be in Europe.
Those around me laughed so I went back to the bar knowing it could never happen.
Nah, everyone left before they got to the end of the thread.

Lots of people covering themselves here. Personally I don't think it will happen for a long, long time.

To the extent that I don't even want to think about that far in the future.

The Japanese are here for Mitoma if he left we could be top four and they would still disappear. I mentioned to my boy the lack of Japanese fans present against Wolves.

Look, if Palace can last a decade in this division then so can we.

To me, the likeliest scenario for 5 - 10 years is that we are still a PL club, just nowhere near as good as we are now. Going to say though, supporting us will never be as depressing as supporting them.

I'll say, relegated 2038/39. And you can quote me on that

It'll be the season the relegation places are decided by a play-off - much like the current promotion places currently work.

I know this because despite finishing 2 places and 10 points clear of Palace (as we always will have done for the previous 20 years), this time we'll both be in a relegation play-off, and they will win and stay up, all thanks to a crap VAR/referring decision.

It's the law.

From our current position of strength I reckon it would take a combination of the following, in order of importance: 1) A manager that doesn't work out 2) 2 bad transfer windows in a row 3) loss of 1 or 2 key players 4) A season where 2 of 3 promoted clubs have a stormer. 5) loss of key backroom staff.

It is inevitable at some point though, nothing lasts forever in football.

Next season cold be tricky with Leicester and Southampton likely coming back up, they still have the Premier League dollar. Not that next season should be a problem for us, unless any of the other permutations happen that is!

You have no right coming on here with facts 🤣 I suppose if Dirty, Leicester and Ipswich come up they would make a better fist of it than Luton, Sheffield and Burnley.
