Don’t think it will be eliminated during our lifetimes (unless we live a REALLY long time) but can see it being more and more marginalised and used rarely. Would need the card/contactless fees to come right down so a small business can take a payment for something that costs 15p on card before cash disappears.

I won £30 on the Lottery, the Saturday before lockdown. £8 odd left now which is just enough for a large cod and chips at my local chippy who still resolutely refuses to take cards.

Ha ha. Just read the previous post. That's the very same chippy.

King fish and chips. 'king wonderful!

Initially thought that Covid would accelerate the demise of cash - but since relaxation of the rules I’ve experienced a noticeable increase in small businesses asking for cash in preference to card ( for tax reasons obvs)

Hopefully not before I get through my stash in my safe.On a more serious note the removal of cash would I presume lead to the end of the black economy, would that be good or bad for the UK economy?
