Once it's cleared, he can release some funds owing and return one to me ten fold.

I write about 8 cheques per year for Birthdays and Xmas gift replacements.

I hate the fact there is only about 15 cheques in a cheque book now

I'll be 41 years old in May and I've never written a cheque. I think I had a cheque book in about 2004 but never wrote one.

Used to be 6 months from date on cheque.

Legally it’s 6 years, but banks usually reject any that are over 6 months old (back in the day every one used to be checked for a number of things like date, signature, words and figures being the same, but unless it’s particularly high value they don’t get looked at these days).

Less than a week ago. We get some money from the local Council to cover part of our disabled son's care support and they've never introduced any other payment method other than cheques. So still use at least one a month!

About the only cheque I do write though. Even my Golf Society - finally - has let us pay by BACS, but also still allows cheques for the real oldies.

Mine was about 4 years ago to a society a little behind the times . The last time that I received one was a win on the premium bonds about 6 years ago . Are premium bonds still using cheques ?

Last one to ADUR Council last year for Council Tax. It didn't go through and delayed the payment for about a year.

I'm not sure I've ever written a cheque. They really aren't used in NZ, no bank or government organisation accepts cheques anymore.

I remember once 20 odd years ago I helped a friend in America who didn't have much money pay a small bill for like a hundred dollars. He eventually sent me a cheque in the mail to repay me. It was so f***ing hard to process. I had to go into the bank, then the regular bank person couldn't do it, they arranged a meeting with one of the 'sit down' type bank people and they talked to me about how they can do it but the fees are high etc. I would have just flagged it but I think the person repaying me would have been offended if I didn't cash his cheque he wanted to repay me with. Again, that was 20 years ago.

I recently went in and banked just shy of £10k in cheques from this season‘s salmon rods. It’s Lloyds and their counter automated system doesn’t deal with cheques particularly well, so watching the cashiers all try to hold onto their customer whilst praying someone else has to serve me, gives me an enormous sense of importance and well being that tradition continues to be a thorn in modern life.
