When is 12AM and 12PM?

This might sound silly but just been in an American Diner which on the menu sells pancakes from 10AM to 12PM. In their words the morning only for two hours. Now I always thought 12 PM was midnight and 12AM was Noon. But on arriving home even the Sky + scheduling goes from 11.30 AM to 12 P.M. Have they got it wrong as well?

Strictly speaking there is no such time as 12am or 12pm - it is noon and midnight.
AM is ante meridian - before noon
PM is post meridian - after noon

Pretty obviously 12:01 pm is 1 minute past mid-day, and 12:01 am is 1 minute past midnight, and therefore 12:00pm is mid-day and 12:00am is midnight.

I have been arguing with him about this for about 3 hours now, and there is no convincing him..

12:00:00 is Noon or THE Meridian
12:00:01 is Post Meridian

The Diner & Sky have used what is the "accepted" norm for this that 12 pm is noon as noon only lasts for one second.

The twentyfour hour clock is therefore a much better and less confusing system

The clue is in the definition of am and pm which I've already given.
