When did NSC suddenly become so right wing?

Try The Political Compass and take the test. I am slightly right-wing and slightly authoritarian, probably a lot less than some on here would believe. It's an interesting one to take. I get my students to do it in the first week of the Government and Policies unit - they tell me what they think they are, and then they do the test and see where they come out. They are never as extreme as they believe they are...They also take the British Citizenship test - and only two students have ever passed it, one of which was a second generation Bangladeshi. Always nice to let them see the wood for the trees considering how blinkered they can become in their first 16 years of life...

I love how Tories are branded Right wing, like they are some sort of Nazi organisation.

No no, you've got it wrong. I've just been reading the "poppies" thread and there are posters on there making a very determined effort to argue that it is muslims who are nazis.

The argument seems to go:

70 years ago the modern-day Bosnia/Croatia were part of the German empire.
70 years ago some Germans were Nazis.
Some Bosnians and Croatians were/are Muslims.
Ipso facto all Muslims must be Nazis

It makes a change from them all being terrorists I suppose.

Seriously, you couldn't make it up
(well clearly you can actually)

Somewhere near Ghandi and the Dali Lama. I'm pretty sure neither of them would turn a blind eye to a bit of waterboarding :lolol:

Those questions don't give a very accurate reflection of my views. If I could I'd answer most of them strongly agree/disagree BUT...........

Ignorance can be bliss sometimes...

Agreed. One of the greatest things about moving to a new country where you don't (at first) understand the local lingo is that you have a blissful honeymoon period where you can filter out the annoying bigotry and pedantry of daily life at will.

Unfortunately it doesn't last, and once you start being able to understand what's going on around you, you soon realise everyone else talks the same old shit as in the UK... :lolol:

The government here is talking about banning shops from opening on Sundays, not because they think it's a good idea, but because the minority ruling coalition thinks it might need the support of the two (count them) right-wing funadmentalist Christian MPs in parliament

On NSC for over two decades...
I've always thought of NSC as being "The People's Republic of North Stand Chat". But they've always been happy to entertain pragmatists like myself, so I let the occasional bouts of "Nanny Knows Best" comments from the looney left slide.

:)

(I like it here, lets have a heated debate)

Ever since the tories took over the lib/dems the right wing element everywhere have been more vociferous and that naturally brings the lefties out to play. It's not just on here.

I would say it's the other way round - since the new government came to power we have more and more hateful posts from idiots such as SimonSimon. If the "Lefties" stopped the "f***ing Tories bastards" and "Traitor Clegg" posts and posted well thought out arguments I think there would be less "right wing" posts. Also, the lefties need to start understanding it was the banks AND Labour that wrecked the economy not one OR the other.

The banks f***ed everyone.

The problem for Britiain is we have a debt of: 4.8 trillion pounds, Money Labour spent and started to borrow to stimulate the economy.

We now have a state sector that is 53% of the workforce. The state has never, will never, create money.

Seriously, the fact that 42,000 Muslims served in the Waffen SS and Nazi police units isn't made up! Actually.

Mein Kampf for sale, in Arabic
By Sean O'Neill and John Steele 19 Mar 2002

AN Arabic translation of Hitler's Mein Kampf which has become a bestseller in the Palestinian territories is now on sale in Britain. The book, Hitler's account of his life and anti-Semitic ideology written while he was in prison in the 1920s, is normally found in Britain in academic or political bookshops.

THIS ... Is the right answer!

The sooner we realise why we're in this mess, stop blaming each other and sort the f**king problem the better. That includes tax payers understanding we are all going to have to play our part in the bail out, students realising this and the government helping businesses to create jobs then we have a chnace. Oh and the Sofa Brigade (created by Labour) getting off their collective arses and giving life a go!

Thanks for listening!

I would say it's like most of the papers and most of Britain, it's mostly left of centre, but a minority of right-wingers shout the loudest and angriest and so are more noticeable

Lots of the right wingers on here actually get banned. I think we have lost more of the "slightly right of Combat18" supporters than any other. Not saying that's a bad thing...

We are left with those who can actually argue coherently (sometimes) from both sides, which is what makes this group fun. And challenging.

Interesting.

I would love to see where some posters on here are aligned.

I came out in exactly the same place as Mahatma Gandhi?!

A few years ago I managed to demonstrate how easy it is to fail the British Citizenship test and so managed to demotivate a whole class of first and second generation English Asian and Afro-Caribbean kids who took the view that if I failed what was the point in them trying? :lolol:

According to that test I am almost spot on in the middle! So to all those who think I am a right wing Nazi, I apologise for not living up to your expectations!
