After France lost and drew their first two games in the last World Cup, I put £100 on them at 28/1 to win it. I was working overseas on the day of the final, when I boarded the plane France had just scored to go one up, and I was looking at £2,900 coming my way. When we landed the captain announced that Zidane had gone disco mental and Italy had won, not a good flight!

Not me personally but the day we beat West Ham 1-0 away a few years back some friends of mine who were coming to the game put in a 12 game accumulator.

Eleven of the games came in. The one that didn't? A West Ham home win.

about 5 years ago i had an each accumulator on the 4 English divisions, i had the prem/ championship and league 1 placings secured going into the final day and was relying on Huddersfield in league 2, they were in 3rd place and just needed the win away at Cheltenham. Huddersfield were 1 -0 up in the last minute then decided to do a dodgy pass back to the keeper, Cheltenham ran through and equalized.... cost me £3600

I started a dead pool at the Hollingbury, put my £1.00 on Spike Milligan every week for months, the kitty was at £900+ when I got a new job and moved away so stopped paying and my pick was given to someone else...you guessed it, about 2 weeks later he croaked...pah!

I mentioned this in the most money you've won thread.

I got 5 numbers on the lottery - the first five out. My sixth number was eleven, the sixth ball out was twelve! (the bonus ball was 10! - I think) It was a rollover week and no one won it, so I would have won £14.7m. Instead I got £5,115.

I was 16 at the time.

£1 bet, YEARS ago when I was at Uni, on a 3 from each section bet. Odds were a "minimum 15,750-1" or something around that. But I'd not gone the shortest prices on the form, with the odd draw in there, so it would have been £20k plus.

Just to show how long ago it was, I hadn't noticed that one of my selections was a Sunday kick-off, and ALL 14 had come in on the Saturday! I was at a party in Northaptonon the Saturday nght and I was just unable to think of anything but the live Sunday game at Southend.

There I was in a strange house the next day, unable to settle at all. I couldn't watch as it made e too nervous, I couldn't NOT watch as it made me too nervous. I had a draw for the game, so effectively I was winning at kick-off and just hoping for no goals, which is the hardest bet to cheer on.

Well, we all though the end result, that I didn't win, so how close did I come?
It was a dreadful, dull, 0-0 until very late, my memory says about the 88th min.

Goal to the right of the camera, corner comes in from the far side to the back post, and Dave Regis (I think) headed it back across goal, but OMG it's on target, the keeper has come, gone back and is in no-mans land, it's looping over him. FFS, there's no-one on the line, it was all happening in slo-mo, but was clearly going in all the way.

Southend won 1-0, and my betting slip was duly ripped up. :wozza:

But I've pretty much got over it now, can barely remember it.

We had the first three numbers out of the first ever UK national lottery - for a nano second I was thinking "this is bloody easy" but the next three didn't come in. £10 for a £1, but it turns out I don't have a secret lottery voodoo control thing going on.

i did a one pound accumalator bet that would have paid 11200 pounds, at half time every result was going my way, at full time all but one went against me.

I missed out on $110,000 by one card in Atlantic City. I was playing Caribbean Stud Poker and played the progressive. I had A, K, Q, J of Hearts and needed the 10 for a Royal Straight Flush. The bloke sitting next to me had been dealt it.

A mate of mine split $39M 3 ways in the NJ State Lottery about 14 years ago. He quit work, went to the beach, bought a couple of sports cars, took exotic fishing vacations (Amazon River for one) and died in his sleep from a heart attack about a year after the win.

How is that for luck...........
