What's going on with our club?

Dear anyone that can comment........Harty, Henfield One etc

Firstly, i'm frustrated as so many others are. So take it in that tone before any young whipper snappers accuse me of not being loyal when frankly they were still a twinkle in their daddy's eye as we renewed our season tickets in Kent, marched on FA HQ, leafleted to bring home the albion and wrote more letters than I ever did after xmas as a child. I've been to at least 3 "last ever game the albion will play unless....." in my time, including Blackpool away in circa 1993.

But secondly, why ow why can't a deadline ever be put and kept on the falmer decision? Prescott and the government are probably hoping we're all fed up by now. The storm we made last month has really died down - it's impossible to keep that momentum up and other club supporters are for ever asking me if I've still got a club, why hasn't the decision we all thought was pending actually hasn't been made. For starters, if as many including me, believe the Albion will effectively die without it then I cannot afford to renew my season ticket at such a disproportionate cost if we're not going to start next season. Because we won't be getting a refund and I'm not the only one holding back I know.

Lastly, can the MODS perhaps but a sticky each day that no one else can add to (so it doesn't get lost in all the comment, non footy rubbish) with the definative Falmer new piece of news or even a creditable rumour for that day? You're doing a great job guys and girls but this would be appreciated for those who don't spend our lives on line and want to get straight to the latest news / speculation that's actually creditable. Only asking...... eg:

25th March - Prescott seen on the Pier
26th March - no news from central HQ
27th March - club asks Whitehall "what the F*** are you doing?"
28th March - Prescott turns down Falmer
29th March - Al Queda membership soars in Brighton (Argus Exclusive)

etc etc?

Portlock, the club is NOT going to fold overnight if Falmer is turned down, so I think you can safely invest in your season ticket secure in the knowledge that the club WILL still be up and running throughout next season, regardless of the decision....beyond that is another matter.

As far as a deadline on the decision...we're all frustrated obviously, but no-one at the club is in any kind of a position to hand out deadlines to anyone at Whitehall about when they arrive at their decision. I can imagine the conversation now:

DK: John, you've had long enough now. I want this Falmer decision on my desk by the end of the month.

JP: Dick, f*** off.

We'll know when we know. Pointless getting annoyed about it, when there's absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. Lets just hope and pray the decision is worth waiting for.

going to happen....maybe the club need to update us more often
and not always wait until we've learnt from some-one else

I believe a decision is to be made sooner rather than later, and I say that for two reasons.

One: when the Hoile toilet roll came out in early February, we asked the ODPM when the decision would be made. We were told 'within the next two months...' That's puts the date at the latest around the first week of April.

Two: Parliament's Easter recess starts on April 2. It is believed that the ODPM would want to clear most of what is currently on their desks by then. Hopefully including the Falmer Stadium Inquiry.

But as I have said ad infinitum, the civil servants in the ODPM work at their own pace in their own time. It is entirely possible that the Inquiry hasn't been looked at - but I doubt it. It is a very complicated application, and it was a long-running Inquiry.

And, oh yes, Prescott knows EXACTLY how we feel. When the flowers were delivered, it was the Parliamentary Private Secretary who came to the door (I wasn't thre myself). In terms of hierarchy, that is not far short of the fat bloke himself being there. So, yes, Prescott knows how we feel. In essence, there is NOTHING we can do now.

Except wait.

And wait.

and what will the club have to update on?...NOTHING because they know just as much as we do!

When I am wearing my "optimisitic head", my brain informs me that, in general, it is far easier and quicker to come out with a quick, ill-considered "NO" (yes Mr Hoile, I am referring to YOU), than it is to come out with a carefully-considered and well thought out "YES". I always believed a YES would take much longer than a NO.

I cannot bring myself to tell you what I think during some of my darker moments.

And wait.

I would agree with that. His agent in Hull was left in no doubt about how the Albion fans felt.

Waiting is painful but all the time we're waiting the answer isn't no.

No news is good news.

Absolutely WRONG!! I am convinced the decision will be virtually all about politics, and very little about planning. The advantage with this is that we can STILL make a difference. We've done loads, but there's much more that can be done. We cannot afford to sit around and wait, we MUST do more.
