This is the situation -

I'm coming down to Sussex with me wife and kids (aged 4, and 1-and-a-half) to stay in my Mum and Dad's house in Lewes.

We normally only stay 3-4 days, but this time we're doing a 'house swap' with them, so we get to stay in Sussex for 10 days.

Obviously, having lived in Sussex 'til 14 years ago, I know quite a lot of places to visit/things to do in Sussex but I also know that NSC can recommend to me some of the 'hidden gems' or some special events going on...

I've got a ticket for the Cov game, and I'm going to one of the days of Sussex v. Worcs, so my fix of Sussex sport is sorted!

But, can you tell me what you would recommend...?!

I guess a Harvey's brewery trip is out of the question?

Arundel is my home town and marvellous but can be very crowded when it is nice.

If you're looking for a beach, try Ferring or Clymping.

Butlins at Bognor is apparently OK for the kids, though I would have my reservations (I have never been though).

Drusillas is great for kids.

Will cost about £30 to get in and at this time of the year very crowded, if you go get there early (10am opening time) to try and beat the crowds

There is an absolutely beautiful field which you simply must visit. Its easily accessible as its right next to the A27, just next to a couple of universities. There is a friendly village nearby with a duckpond which is simple stunning at this time of year. The spectacular wildlife there will take your breath away, from forraging badgers to exotic fruit bats. Pack a picnic and take the whole family along to enjoy the the rural splendour of this field while you still can. It truley is a precious beauty spot, and is widely considered to be the "Jewel in the Crown" of the South Downs. The name of the place escapes me, but I'm sure someone here will know where I mean.

Do let us know how you get on.

Thank you, Easy 10...

Been there, done that... :lolol:

As it happens, I probably will go to the site, if only to take some photos to show people up here in the sunny Midlands that it is not the outstandingly beautiful place that it is made out to be by the NIMBYs...

:D

I went down to Rye with my wife a couple of weeks ago for an afternoon.

It's only just in Sussex but it's very pleasant!

Definitely Drusillas. Really good for little kids - all the zoo stuff is designed for them, and there's a huge outside and inside play area at the end just as they've had enough of animals.

Fishers Farm Park (past Billingshurst) is also good but may be a bit of a trek from Lewes.

If you're in Brighton I would definitely recommend a nostalgic trip to the Museum - you get in the old Dome entrance these days.

If you grew up in Brighton there's loads of stuff about Brighton through the ages - 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s - particularly the youth/music scenes of the time. The kids can run around on the wooden floors and there's a small section for them. And it's FREE!!!!!
