Gossips in Soho. Went to see a band called Sheep on Drugs. The lead singer was called King Duncan (real name Duncan King) and he wore leather trousers, no top, a painted on hitler haircut and the word scum written across his chest in fake blood. At one point he also proceeded to hand ecstacy tablets to people at the front. My mates had told me that I had to wear black because that's what everybody did, but being the age I was and religiously non conformist, I turned up in a very colourful Tintin in the Congo T-shirt. I also had an ingrown toenail which kept getting trod on so I spent the evening in agony whilst being called a tw*t by various people.

In my own strange world
First big night out was Top Rank Suite on a Friday night back in 1977,my mates sister knew one of the doormen who let us in even though we were well under age,we even got served at the bar with beer (Ben Trumans - you can taste the hops in it,apparently) I can still remember some girls bum in skin tight white trousers dancing in front of me to 'You should be dancing' by the Bee Gees and to round the night off,had my first ever Kebab on the way home.

IOW ex Worthing
My first was Sterns just outside Worthing. They used to give out free tickets for 18th birthdays which would be photocopied and passed on to all and sundry. I was 16 and it was a Thursday night!

Hungry Years for me, mid 80s onwards. My defining moment was chatting up this posh horse girl I knew, but having to pause to throw up a curry. Suffice to say I didn't pull her. I went to the Years for about 2 years then moved away. I also went to Sister Rays a fair bit. Great times.

As much as i'm ashamed to say it, Rutherfords on Worthing Pier - it became the regular most Thursday and Saturdays for three or four years with occasionals vists to Illusions ( previously Bensons) and the Factory (now liquid lounge).

I had forgotten delusions, went there a couple of times but that was about it...we used to go to slappers, slightly older clientelle and only saw one really decent punch-up in there, usually fairly friendly and relaxed atmosphere...made a point of avoiding Rutherfords as there was something a little scary about emerging drunk from a venue about 100m out to sea!

Slappers was that the one across from Teville gate by the roundabout up from Benson - did it become Area51 , Men in Black pub/club? I used to like it in there but did get chucked out once for being so bladdered on Snakebite (yes foolishly the did serve it) and topling off a bar stool. The security guy said - "I think you may have had a bit to much to drink" to which i replied "What gives you that idea?" Made him laugh but i was still asked to leave :( At least Uncle Jims wasn't far.
