My 1st 'opening day' was also against Mansfield but in Aug '68 and was a dissapointing 1-2 defeat.

10 years of watching the Albion, and I've never seen a FIRST game of the season.

Might change on Saturday though.

.

Was the first home game ,(the first game of the season was away at southampton ) & wasnt a cup game, we played them in the league cup in 78.
I remember it so well beacause though it wasnt my first ever game it was the one that hooked me.

Not sure it was my first away opening day game, but one that sticks out was the 3-2 defeat at Orient in 1992.

Scorching day, quite pissed up, amazing support in a packed open terrace, and superb goal celebrations. I think Cotterill may have equalised before we let in a winner and there were loads of fans up on the fence.
