I was once given a cassette tape of Ken Dodd songs. The first song was Happiness, followed by Tears and then a series of even more maudlin and depressing songs in a similar vein. Never got to the end of the tape.
He was a very strange man. People frequently baffle me with their affection for creepy wrong 'uns.

Jimmy Young, The Man From Laramie.
More importantly, in a chart full of swooners country singers and even Winifred Atwell, it was the start of Rock'n'Roll with Bill Haley, Rock Around The Clock hitting the charts for the first time.

That God awful Joe Dolce aberration.

Ffs 🤦

Two days later, I could have had Jealous Guy, Roxy Music cover… still not my cup of tea, but no - I had to have one of the worst novelty hits ever recorded…

Probs why I instinctively dislike nearly all 80s music 😂
The sad reality is a good proprtion of 'hits' are novelty shyte.

2 days after I was born . . . . . Get it on , T-Rex

Prior to that . . . . .

Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep. FFS!

I doubt there was a pop chart in the middle of World War 2 when I was born. I think people had other things to think about.

Yep he was very weird but was he a wrong’ un? He certainly came across as one but I’ve seen nothing to suggest that he was.
I use the term loosely. ???

Dave and Ansil/Ansell* Collins - 'Double Barrel'

...a day later and it would have been Dawn - 'Knock Three Times'Three

Got lucky there.

* Different; wrong spelling on the UK release

This thread makes me feel rather old, well, I suppose I am as I was born in the pre chart days of 1948.🦕🦖

Apparently it was If by Perry Como.

Not a song I was aware of then or now.

By the time I was listening to music on the radio we had the likes of Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, Freddie and the Dreamers etc

Things got better
