The site of the Ramada Renaissance / Holiday Inn / green windowed hotel thing, 1985

They knocked the Alhambra down for that. Now that was a good live music venue

And the crypt mentioned above. Fairly sure that was closed by 84, but in the mid and late 70s it was interesting before they started digging the coffins out of the walls ???

Yeah they were pretty fearsome as well, I don't remember exactly when (1983?) but the 657 crew came to brighton out of season in a coach, smashed up a load of pubs and went back home...lol

Thats interesting i always thought that was Saints fans , i was in a empty ish sherrys on a thursday night during closed season unless it was a different occasion it kicked off with a load of Southampton inside , police were caught completley unaware and by the time they showed there were quite a few bloody noses ect, we left sherrys and id say within a hour or so there was a sizeable mob of Brighton roaming around looking for the Southampton , what happend after that im not sure as it was free entry in Snoopys before 11pm .

Rarely ventured upstairs to where the bands played, so I dont know the bloke... we stayed in the basement pretty much...Owner was called Achmed, or Ahmed..
Always funny seeing some mad drummer in the window bay when you were passing by the place...

I used to go to the ABC Cinema in East Street, I think people referred to as the Cannon. Viewed many great films there. Happy days

You could argue, Dave, that your "sound" drove the place out of business within two years based on that flimsy argument.

Only if we were not packed every night, and voted best night in Brighton one year in the 80s, by somebody or the other...
It was on its knee's when we first played there, with plans for it to go I believe.
No idea what happened upstairs, or the rest of the week, but I dont think much else was going on there the last couple of years.

Not sure if it was even the 80s, but I seem to have a lingering memory of seeing the film 'Soldier Blue' in a cinema at the top right hand side of West street....if it there was a cinema what is it now?
I may be confusing it with the one where bk is in North St now, but really have a vague memory of it being West St.

Mmmm, I'm doubting myself now, it was about 30yrs ago but I'm sure it was Pompey, maybe someone else can help us out?
