That's another thing. Being born in 1957 I don't consider myself a 'Boomer', but for convenience I get lumped in with them. They now get WAY too much abuse. Yes ok a lot have drifted rightwards as they've got older, and the lucky ones are financially secure in their old age (so I'm definitely not one), but they were also the protest generation. Some would have cut their teeth on Aldermarston marches with their parents, and the Boomer generation as a whole protested against the Vietnam war (and war in general), and marched for Civil Rights, Women's Rights and Gay Rights. They were the first generation to start to care about the environment, had a sub-culture built on tolerance, love, peace and understanding and rebelled against the Authoritarian Establishment. They laid the social groundwork for where we are now.

In short they achieved a lot, and if the current generation achieve half as much they'll be doing well.

I think that's the point of the derision... they used to care about changing the world now they don't..
I may be overthinking it though.

These people, whilst old, are almost certainly not Gammons.

Exactly. The wonderful thing about the word gammon is that you can project certain things onto it. Many have mentioned the pink face of the gammon, but I also like to think of that pink face being surrounded by white hair, just so it resembles the cured pork even more. That would mean that Mark Francois isn't a gammon, or isn't yet a gammon. We could perhaps refer to him as a proto-gammon.

Edward Leigh, on the other hand. He's clearly firmly a gammon:

Sir Edward Julian Egerton Leigh (born 20 July 1950) is a British Conservative Party politician who has served as a Member of Parliament since 1983.

I think you are overthinking it. The point about generations is that they never all share the same worldviews. There might be new projects/ideas/stances, but there is always resistance to these both within and between generations.

A gammon has just been interviewed on the wireless after his quarantine has just finished;

“Well I mean, you’re on your own, they put the food through the door. And the food, oh! well, it’s just so basic. So very basic. Nothing like we’ve enjoyed on the cruise”.

Gammon; entitled old tosser who gets red with rage over not getting his own way.

you can go gammon hunting on here if you’re ever bored;

Find a thread filled with leave voters. You’ll find them on threads with subject matter including Tommy Robinson, Muslims, school sports days, the news, climate change, Brighton Pride etc.

Wait for a few of them to gather at the watering hole and for some sensible people to post, they are good bait.
They may for example, suggest the world problems are not all cause by Muslims or that Brexit has possible had a negative effect on the car industry. Ppf will be first to arrive. It’s tempting to waste a shot on him but hold back, there’s no meat on him. You want your wellquickwoodys, your Beorthelms, your Mouldy Boots. These are the ones that go apoplectic when shots are fired. They are good value. A good train journey can be filled hunting these guys.

Once you have had your fun you’ll be tempted to walk away. Stop. It’s worth hanging on for Pastafarian to arrive. It’ll usually be about an hour after the hunt is over. He’s great. He’ll go back over every post and post utter gibberish about everything. Eventually focusing on one minor detail because he’s had every of his other point annihilated. When you’re bored of him, mention the time he accidentally posted a screen grab of all his porn bookmarks. He’ll call you gullible and disappear for a week.
He signals the end of discussion.
There you go, Gammon Hunting for fun.

Filter out the unknowns and historical 'Hughton out!' obsessives, allow a few omissions from it who would certainly qualify as Gammons, but an NSC 'who's who' of them can largely be referenced here on this infamous Brexit thread list:

It's the sort of person that rather than use google, asks the question on a footabll message board, the sort of person who calls anyone to the left of Ghengis Khan a snowflake but gets outraged by the most mundabe shit imaginable, the sort of person who unironically claims to have gone to "the university of life", the sort of person who's "not racist, but", the sort of person who used to call things pc gone mad but has just discovered the word woke, the sort of person who won't have a word said against Empire, the sort of person who thinks prison is too soft, sentences are too short, the sort of person that thinks all spped limits are wrong and you should be able to park anywhere, In summary a ****.

Very good summary. I think it's important to remember there's also quite an extensive list of individuals they have/had a keen dislike in. These include:

Jeremy Corbyn
John McDonnell
Diane Abbott
Caroline Lucas
Angela Merkel
Nicola Sturgeon
Hilary Clinton
Greta Thunberg
Anna Soubrey
Gina Miller
Laura Kuenssberg
Meghan Markle
Owen Jones
Justin Trudeau
Leo Varadkar
Sadiq Khan

It is a way of being sexist, classist and racist but deemed perfectly acceptable because it is against white men where the rules of discrimination do not count.

You may not be a Boomer, but you're still ok.

On Twitter it’s usually those on the left who hate Laura Kuenssberg, calling her a Tory lackey out to get Labour.
