What song reminds you of John Peel?

Im sat at my PC at home doing some work and have a few CDs on the go.

After hearing the tragic and sad news about John Peel I changed my CDs over to more fitting ones.

So far I have listened to Teenage Kicks by The Undertones because I first heard it when Peel played it.

Also fleeted through Blue Monday by New Order.

Have settled on Dionne Warwick for some reason. Her best of album is beautiful but tinged with sadness.

Peel's influence on modern music can never be underestimated and we owe him more then we will ever know.

For me it has to be "Ever Fallen In Love With Someone (You Shouldn't've Fallen In Love With)?" by The Buzzcocks.

He played it when compereing at the Reading Festival many years ago when I was about 16/17. After playing the record he said "That was supposed to make you dance you bastards"

Many hours spend listening to him during my college years.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Its a bizarre one, but I won an album by a band called the Adventures off the great man himself and Janice Long (!!) at a Radio 1 roadshow at an Airshow in Blackpool about 20 years ago.

The question was something to do with Bananarama.

Its a pretty shit album, but there is a great track on it called Broken Land which reminds me a lot of growing up, i've listened to Peel ever since, hadnt really heard of him before that, its the first thing that came into my head today when I heard the terrible news.

Can't remember what it was called but it was a Mixmaster Mike track that ended after 15 seconds to be followed by at least 30 seconds of silnce where John had obviously buggered of somewhere. The silence was interrupted by John saying 'Well, didn't realise it was quite that short...here's another'

The big goon.

It's moments like that one that I appreciated most.

THAT WAS HIS FAVE SONG OF ALL TIME,

No doubt it will be played at his funeral.

Nine has a track called 'peel' which is nothing about John Peel but made me think of him evertime I heard it.

He always loved " Atmosphere" by Joy Division.

Walk in silence,
Don't walk away, in silence.
See the danger,
Always danger,
Endless talking,
Life rebuilding,
Don't walk away.

Walk in silence,
Don't turn away, in silence.
Your confusion,
My illusion,
Worn like a mask of self-hate,
Confronts and then dies.
Don't walk away.

People like you find it easy,
Naked to see,
Walking on air.
Hunting by the rivers,
Through the streets,
Every corner abandoned too soon,
Set down with due care.
Don't walk away in silence,
Don't walk away.

I've got Substance 1987 on my changer, along with 3 of the 4 discs of Retro.

Ot if, The Perfect Kiss, True Faith, Blue Monday and Ceremony all seem apt

I may dig out the 'other' Substance, the Joy Division one.

Teenage Kicks followed by any track by The Fall.

Oddly enough I happened by chance to hear Sugar Hiccup by the Cocteau Twins yesterday and immediately took me back to the night I heard it on his show in the dark with the headphones on. I think I'll go and do that tonight in memory of all the music the guy got me into during my youth.

For some reason it's the Jesus and Mary Chain, Psychocandy. His show is definitely where I first heard them.
