what makes a good pub for you?

for me it has to be-

a roaring fire in the winter
some nice horse brass on the walls
a collection of regulars Tankards behind the bar
Dartboard
carpet, not wooden floors
a decent selection of ales, beers and ciders
Sky sports TV

Old style spit and sawdust like the Crescent at the Seven Dials was years ago.

That is the character of the pub.

I would want staff who are friendly and quick to serve you. Music at such a level you can still hold a conversation and room to move around.

Decent clean toilets too!!

I never used to be a fan of TVs in pubs, but the old has to embrace the new.

Mayber TV one side of the bar, and a quiet side the other.

Over there.
Hot nuts

Sounds painful, although i don't think that the thread was referring to THAT kind of a place, althopugh i'm sure if you ask the staff nicely they'll oblige.

Decent pint of Harvey's.

No music or TV.

And staff that are efficient

Eeurghh Horse brasses and tankards!!

For me what makes a good pub is the people in it i.e. the staff and punters.

I agree with the Russian. People make the place, I'll drink anything anywhere if the company's good.

Do like roaring fires and Harveys though. That would be the icing on the cake.

Fast service, with a smile
Sky sports but as discreet as possible in case you're not interested.
Clean - I don't like seeing full up ashtrays, empty crisp packets and wet tables.

You should all drink in my pub in Worthing, sells Harverys plus a varierty of other real ales, staff are friendly, efficient, good looking and charming, there is a mix of all ages, the odd Albion player pops in now and again, there are horse brasses, carpet, chillie nuts, roaring fires, a telly that tucks away and is only on for football, cricket, grand prix. oh, did i mention the staff are fantastic!!!! :lolol:

Trotster, what's the name of this pub? it sounds great.

My mum's staying in Worthing at the moment..sounds a good chance to get a decent pint of Harvey's.

BTW, has anyone been to the pub in south London that sells harvey's. I think it's in Southwark somewhere - what's its name, where is it and what's it like?
