A Forensic Accountant?

My wife had an accident a couple of years back when working and the company have admitted liability in the claim but they now need details of any loss of earning due to the accident. Her solicitor has told her he needs details of all losses and may need to employ a 'Forensic Accountant' as these claims are always contentious.

Thought that I would ask the wise ones of NSC.

My understanding is that they go through accounts like a forensic scientist would look for clues ie with fine tooth combs

But I'm prepared to be corrected. Buzzer will know I'm sure!

If it's your solicitor then why don't you just ask him to explain it. From what I know from the insurance world, a forensic accountant would normally be used to establish a business interruption claim, which, in effect, this is. They need to establish what your wife would have likely have earnt had she not had the accident.

They are also used to examine company fraud and the like.

So I was right!! Go me!! Although I accept your explanation was better than mine! :)

Google it BG, and all will be revealed.

Did that, it was so simple what a wally I am.

Apparently they are accountants whose expertise can be used in a court of law for disputes and wikepedia does show injury claims as an example of their work.

Thanks to All

As an aside - if you employ a forensic accountant they will want to see everything. I have employed one before as the trustee of a charity.

After they are finished, they will know your finances better than you do.
