I purchased a nice winter coat last night, for £35, have seen similar for £100+. I placed the bid on my phone at just gone midnight, and was going to pay in the morning.

Woke up to the following message;

Apologies but I am unable to sell the item as I have had a fire in my house and am not sure if I would be able to sell the jacket. Please not NOT send payment. Thank you for your interest

I replied;

Why did you wait until now before saying something?
This isn't the way things work.
The item should have been removed.

He replied;

as my house was on fire yesterday and ebay listings were kind of low down on my priorities. I hope thats ok with you

I said;

Well, there isn't much I can say to that.
I will leave neutral feedback with your claims.
I imagine most would leave negative.

I'm probably too kind, as it sounds far too dodgy, but he did have 170+ ratings, and 95% positive.

Still pretty annoying, perhaps not as annoying as your house catching on fire though...

95% is far too low for me to buy anything from, must be at least 99.5%.

I once bought a Match Attax Football card for my son of a player he needed to complete his collection. It cost 40p, but the seller didnt accept paypal. So I had to send a cheque! To cut a long story short, after numerous chase-ups I never got the card, the seller was no longer an ebay user and after 3 months, he cashed my cheque. f***ing peasant!

Why does having a fire in your house prevent you for selling it, unless it caught fire itself in which case he could just say that. It might delay it but...

A bit, 'the dog at my homework'.

Sold a coat on ebay for £75, posted it recorded delivery, checked it was signed for and forgot about it.

Four weeks later got a notice from Paypal saying this was a fraudulent transaction and that they were taking the money from my account even though I could prove that the fella had signed for it.

After getting nowhere, I emailed and called the buyer on almost hundred occasions and was ignored so popped up to his address in Slough and found him wearing the coat!!

I hope you landed one on him before dragging the coat off his back while he was lying on the floor and giving him a swift kick in the knackers?

Someone hacked into my ebay account, listed HUNDREDS of Macbook Pros, iMacs and iPhones for sale. I didn't realise as they'd also somehow managed to hack into my email account and send all emails from ebay into my trash! By that point "I'd" made a few thousand pounds worth of sales, people had bank transfered "me" money (stupid on their part) and were wondering where there items were, and I had racked up close to £900 worth of ebay fees!

Luckily got sorted out without too much hassle, ebay were really good about it. Not sure if people who had bank transferred money over ever got it back though....

I once brought something from an adult store as a joke going away present for a friend. To this day it scars my history and eBay recommends a variety of sex aids to me whenever I log on.
