Of course, it's not just about the football, and I go for more-a-less the same reasons, just without drinking, I don't feel like I need to drink or get drunk in order to have a good day out.

neither do i, or probably any one else who does it. it just adds to the enjoyment.

Each to their own though isn't it I suppose. I can see why people may have a couple of drinks, it's just the getting drunk, I've been to quite a few away games and seen people so pissed they can't even watch/enjoy the game.

It was entertaining in a horrific way though.

Well you know the type of game you're going to when it's Lewes v Rushden & Diamonds... It's never going to be a great game of football but it will be entertaining.

Yes, or going out for a drink. What's that got to do with it?

what's the difference between going to a pub for a drink and going to the pub for a drink(s) before the game? it is just something people enjoy doing.

people get pissed to go clubbing. people get pissed to go to the football.

a trip to gillingham with the worthing boys on a norris run ICC coaches outing in the 70's(yes you could get there without the M25) pick up at the palace pier and a half bottle of Teachers and 6 cans of long life before tunbridge wells,in some pub before 12 and off at half two to the bar in the ground.

did we win?

forest last year was quite bad, mainly due to the fact that we were booked on a ludicrously early train that resulted in being there by 10. and now being on a train home until about 7

Quite.

Assault
Theft
Attempted Robbery
Mislaying of giant 'f*** off' flag (photographed the next week in 'Seagull')
Mislaying of train tickets
Eviction from train as a result of mislayed train tickets
Blagging cheap(ish) train tickets home.
Sleeping on St Pancras Station floor.

Yes, I think that wins.

Starting a revolution from my bed
away days aren't just about the football. that's why i'd never drive to an away game unless there is no other option. it's about meeting a group of your pals at silly oclock in the morning at brighton station, stocking up on enough tins to inebriate the entire away following, having a sing song and a laugh on a horrible long journey to some northern shithole. finding a pub, getting a good atmosphere with the other (more often than not pissed up) away lot. watching the game, and then carrying on the festivities straight after the game. throw in a meat based product at some point and you've a beast of a day.

:drink:

That's what I'm talking about  The only time I'm ever prepared to get up early is for an away game, I love the cold air at Brighton station at 7 o clock in the morning, I love the mad scamper to get on the train and get a decent seat with a table to lay out the cans, I love the laughs that we have on the way up, I love eyeing up every single bird that walks past us on the train, I love tucking into a Burger King at Victoria, I love the buzz of strolling around the town then sticking on a nice little accumulator and most of all I love getting wrecked and having an absolute f***ing stormer of a day.

Good thread.

Carlisle away 2 seasons ago. Got on the train at 5.15am and started drinking. Drunk all day till KO. Went to pub afterwards for several more, left the pub and picked up a 6-pack for the journey between carlisle and manchester.

When arrived in manchester went to my brothers house where silly drinking games were played, before heading into town by bus (where my mate puked down the neck of a girl sitting infront of him causing her to flip). Then went clubbing and carried on drinking till 3.30 when it was time for some well-earned coma.

I think it took a year off my life expectancy

Probably Swansea away with the Butchy, still to this day not clear how I got home.

Not sure how I got from the pub to the ground or how I was even allowed in. The first thing I remember is finding myself, at half time, sitting on the terraces with a huge pool of vomit in front of me, and a policeman standing over me. I thought I was going to be ejected but he was merely concerned that I didn't come to any harm, and I was allowed to watch the second half.

Not too bad for Albion games, in my drinking days an away game usually involved a couple of pre-match pints but not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the football...I usually left that job to the players!

I have only been to one England game and drank so much that I could only remember bits of the game and nothing of my journey home, fortunately I lived in North London at the time so it wasn't really that far.

My most drunken state at a game was in Belgium, there was a bar in the ground for a few cheeky ones pre-game, then again at half time and also following the final whistle...before heading off into town to continue...the club even opened the stadium gates at half time so all those who couldn't fit into the bar could go across the road for a swift one...those Belgians really do like their beer.

Watford away in 84 for me. Had a Union Jack spread over my comatised body before the teams came out and was rudely awoked 5 mins after the teams had left the field. Never saw a kick.

I vaguely remember pissing in a pint glass on a tube train after Barnet away, then leaving it on the platform at the next station. Disgusting behaviour.
