It doesn't seem to stop people starting new threads either and those new threads never get merged into the sticky thread. e.g:

Agreed - and they have the exactly the opposite of the desired affect with me .... I ignore them completely so couldn't even tell you what the current ones are about.

The away threads do not need to be sticky. If they just merged all of the ones about each away game they would stay near the top any way.

Agreed, disliked the away thread thing from day one. What is going to happen when we (rightly) have all the REMF stuff at the top, not to mention relevant Falmer threads. There will be a lot a sticky's.

We should just go back to normal and besides, most of the threads fad into obscurity anyway.

The away threads will go to a vote after the Southampton game so if the majority don't want them, they will go.

Actually I quite like the stickies, I think NSC looks bare without them Also when there were just two (webcam and one other) I found I glanced at them, now we've gone back to having loads I find I'm ignoring them again and just letting my eye drift past the Sticky..., Sticky..., Sticky..., etc. until I come to the first 'real' thread.

Just hope there's nothing interesting or importasnt

There are eight of them - and most are just taking up space for no good reason. Why this sudden need for away games?

Stickies are needed for away games to stop 48 or more threads on the same subject cluttering up the board. With a sticky the mods can merge these disparate threads all into one.
