Ive come to the conclusion its this:

https://youtu.be/z-GUjA67mdc

I have many favourites that I have listened to destruction - I found an old mix cd of my ultimate favourites from mid 90's I had to skip them all as overplayed to death.

However this one EVEN THOUGH IT IS PLAYED EVERY DAY ON ABSOLUTE 80s etc is still brilliant and I always turn it up and listen.

So the criteria is can you listen to it every day for 30 years?

in this case yes - yes I can

(although I am currently listening to Uncertain smile daily until that becomes tiresome - not there yet )

Different folks different strokes. This song is up their with Bohemian Rhapsody for me. Both great songs but SO overplayed at the time imo, turn them both off now

Mate, I had a good think about what to post while taking my car in for a service this morning. The result is posted above. If you're interested, the other runners and riders were:

Howard Devoto - Rainy season
Killing Joke - Are you receiving
Yello - I love you
Rebeat - Machines in motion
The Style Council - Long hot summer
Ministry - Jesus built my hotrod

and an honourable mention for the best ep ever, Snakecharmer by Jah Wobble and chums.

And true to my promise I'm not posting any links

Losing your touch HWT, I’ve heard at least 3 of them.

Marvin Gaye's vocals on this song are among the finest ever recorded in popular music. (IMHO of course)

I was umming and aahing between The Beatles - Something, and this.

Such a wonderful song. Nothing wrong with it.

I had to check this was a single release but it was.

I must have listened to this at least every month since about 1985 when a school mate played it to me. I can sing every word (badly). It achieves that "perfect" (sorry) Matt Johnson trick of marrrying up depressing or meaningful lyrics with a tune the postman could whistle. And it's got Jules Holland playing a mental piano solo. Absolutely sublime.

One of life's great musical pleasures is listening to "Uncertain Smile" and following up straight away with "This is the Day"
A great double act

I should hope so too! I didn't pick them for their obscurity. They all played a massive part in my life

Who on earth are the Style Council?

Christ.

Really? You don't know? ???

I won't post a youtube link as that's not in the spirit of the thread (and I don't want THPP at my throat again) so check out wikipedia:

Let me introduce you to a few other things that are likely to have you guffawing.

Cheesecake. Cake. Made out of cheese.
Crinkly crisps.
Central heating

???

The arse end of Hangleton
Otis Reading .... Sitting on the Dock of the Bay .... one of my funeral tunes. When I listen to it I just melt away and imagine sitting in the Caribbean at the end of a wonky platform, bottle of rum, bottle of coke and a fishing rod, watching the sun go down.

Saw them at the Brighton Centre. (Not sure what year) Love Paul Weller.
Used to sell cheesecake made of cheese (with sultanas too)
Love crinkly chips.
Central Heating - Not in Malta
