Lurking
Nothing beats a doughy bottom with fat juicy sultanas and loads of butter. Fresh or toasted.

Top glaze goes a tiny bit bitter in the toaster. Still yum though.

Fresh, I butter then close it back up again. Toasted, I eat them separate.

Maybe i'm a monster, but i NEVER slice a HCB in half, straight out the packet into my gaping cavern. Mmmmmmm

If you'd dunked in tea I could have embraced the idea but I can't have a hcb going near coffee.
Dunking panettone in coffee is fine though.
No it doesn't make sense.
Yesterday, I had a slice of hot cross bun panettone from Waitrose, courtesy of my daughter. It was very tasty.

Put butter in it with marmalade, the thick rind type which is usually a bit sour and eat it untoasted like a bun. Recently tried this and wont go back to toasting them.

Definitely the top half, it gets more crusty.

As an aside, can they please stop producing these what I would call excessive hot cross buns. You know, hot cross buns with chocolate, with cheese, with marmite. What is wrong with just a hot cross bun.

Every time Mrs Giraffe brings one of those excessive hot cross buns home I tut and moan about the modern generation and their excesses before begrudgingly munching my way through their gorgeous delights. It's just not right.
Agree - we previously loved wholemeal hot-cross buns which Waitrose sold all year round. But now they've stopped selling them altogether. You can buy extra fruit HCBs, chocolate HCBs, cinnamon HCBs, apple HCBs, etc, but not good old wholemeal HCBs.

So we don't eat them anymore

West is BEST
Anyone enjoy a thin slice of cheese of HCB. Usually cheddar, melted.

Blue cheese works very well as well.

Prefer a tea-cake to HCB’s though .
