Its not all potters fault. Hes trying to **** with a limp dick. The players are letting him down massively infront of goal. However in some part he needs to take responsibility for it.

I wasnt expecting 3 points today its not the brighton way but we do not look like a team who has any confidence at all and Potter and his team need to work on that fast. Expectations should be higher and he needs to find a team that works too many changes game in game out for me. Without Lamptey with lack the ability to get in behind and cause teams problems and our forwards are not good enough at this level. Connelly is not good enough. Maupay has lost everything good he had about him. We cant leave it all to welbeck and as such the recruitment team need to look at themselves on that.

I dont think another manger would get much more out of the players at the moment but he also needs to sort his shit out because its not good enough.

After lockdown we had minority possession for the majority of games, we also picked up our best results of the second half of that season.

A new manager might build on that instead of reverting to a game plan that had us in a relegation battle.

'Might' being the operative phrase. A manager wouldn't be changed unless there was a relative sureness that things would improve.

In the depths of winter old fire fighters are normally the only ones available. I'd rather Albion didn't go down that route.

I'd rather this not even be a subject right now. For me, Potter is not perfect, but I'm fine with him in charge.

You start a decent post and then ruin it with a snide dig.

No-one expects Champions Leagues positions but they do expect a certain level o football which we are very far from at the moment.

I have never heard an Albion fan talk about champions league places. I cant remember one talking about europa league or whatever its called. The club started talking about top 10 ambitions before i heard the fans say it.

He'd have the tactical nous and flexibility to be able to switch styles to direct football when the need arises.

I enjoy watching Potter's expansive possession-based setup, but we showed more passion and urgency in the last 10 minutes.

If we'd have done that from the start of the 2nd half rather than attempting death by a thousand passing cuts, we may well have scored earlier and won.

Choose not to throw a game at Leicester with the cunning plan of securing two points in total from 2 of the other 5 gash teams in this division.

I'm actually more annoyed with Potter for that than anything that has since happened on the pitch, which I accept isn't entirely his fault. It his not his fault our strikers are fcking turd, but playing a second string at Leicester was inexcusable.

Probably concede possession and park the bus with 10 men behind the ball hoping for counterattacks with quick forwards like Maupay, Welbeck and Connolly.

Shoot more
Be faster in action and thought
Anticipate/gamble more in the final third
Less tinkering with the team.

One of three are related to the manager.

I agree with your first two though.
Not sure that Potter is telling the players to do the opposite.

He’s to nice. Applauding that Connolly header ? When really he should have left for Welbeck or hit the target.

Given the players Christmas Day off, despite being on a terrible run and a piss poor performance today?

I don’t entirely blame him for players missing chances or lack of confidence but he has to get a new tune out of them somehow.

But formation wise today we were so obviously , no width or pace , or forward movement.

I see where you're coming from, but to me today we lacked any sort of desire or fight. Sheffield United clearly wanted it so much more than we did.

Motivation. The common things that always gets mentioned when a team lose a game. I've read a lot of old match threads on NSC and the motivation issue must be really deep inside the walls or the club logo or something because its doesnt change with managers or players. Likewise its seemingly the same thing elsewhere.

Its never ability or skill. Its always "goal scoring instinct", "passion", "motivation", "leadership", "attitude" and other abstract things that conveniently enough can not be measured or disproven.

Very often uttered by people lacking exact those qualities and never taking into account that you dont become a professional football player unless you have this absolutely pathological desire to win.

Not going to discuss whether its his fault or not. I've followed football for a long time and its always the managers fault in every football team ever and I see no reason why Potter would be the exception.

What I'm wondering is what the next manager (until it becomes his fault as well) is going to do that will make everything great finally establishing the club in its well-deserved, quality wise obvious position somewhere around the Champions League positions?

Lets have a thread without the blame game - just some basic constructive debate. The Magic Mr X surely got the magic solution - but what does it look like?

Well on that basis, let's not bother with having a coach at all. If no other manager can get this bunch of players playing in a more dynamic, fluid style then it doesn't matter what we do. I guess it depends whether you think the players he has at his disposal are performing to their max or whether they can be managed better. I'm in the latter camp.

He'd at least TRY and install a bit of fire in the belly of the team, unlike the current soppy twerp. Maybe even settle on a settled side, so they at least start to know how each other play and where each other likely to be. Sheffield United seem to be going the right way. Well against us at least

Do teams that dont "give a S*@t " keep scoring late goals? Thats the one accusation that I don't think can be levelled at the team. Presumably Sheff United's fans should say the same given they have 2 points this season..

I didn’t say they don’t give a shit. It’s just that for some reason they think walking forwards before making a sideways pass is the way to win PL matches.

How about: Not playing slow build up possession play to eventually cross asking small forwards to win aerial battles with giants?
Not taking corners short when we have the big guys up?
The training of basic Sunday league defence?
Knowing his best eleven?
Playing to players strengths?
Knowing how to make effective substitutions?
Motivating the players?...

I was on the fence but relegation is looming playing how we are.
We have no given right to stay up, but I think as fans we always want what's best for our club, and couldn't give two f***s what that looks like to outsiders.

I think one of the problems for you Swanny, apart from the snide comments, is that you haven't followed us long enough to be able to put these discussions in any real context. You didn't see us under Hughton when we were good (and we were good) or bad. You didn't see us under Poyet. To an extent I feel like you treat us a little like footballing peasants. You have a bit of a 'know it all' attitude that i'm not sure is warranted.
There's a sense of 'be grateful for what you have'.

The reality is, we're not playing better than we did under Hughton (good) or Poyet. And to an extent, there are slight similarities with Hyppia. We're being told the guy is a genius (in Hyppia's case it was because of his CV) but we're not seeing a huge amount of evidence of that. We're seeing a team lacking confidence, who seem unsure of their roles and the game plan. We are seeing strange team selections and the suspicion of discontent amongst some. And at times, worryingly, a lack of interest from certain players.

The idea that another manager couldn't change things is clearly nonsense, and the idea that another manger couldn't improve us is just plan wrong.

And nobody on here expects Champions League football. Nobody.
Any Albion supporter older than about 16 knows how far we've come. But we are allowed to question things.

Get a new captain for a start, we have no leadership on the pitch.

Spot on.
Came on here to post exactly this. Expecting to be shot down in flames, obvs.
We miss Bruno desperately.
Love Lewis but being local, big & a centre half doesn't make you a captain, I'm afraid

Did you actually watch the way Sheffield United were scrapping for everything as opposed to way even in the dying seconds we were just walking it up the pitch?
