What ever happened to Teddy Maybank ?

Often seen around Blatchington Road area; certainly likes a drink and can oftten be seen looking like a man suffering from the night before.

I remember him mucking about on a kids skateboard at Brighton station prior to boarding the Seagull Special for the first away game of the season, (I think 78). All of a sudden you heard the shout, "Maybank, get off that f***ing skateboard". That was Alan Mullery.
I think it was Wrexham away & I'm sure it was the first game, but might be wrong.
(Loved the Seagull Special).

I was there when that happened. Could`nt believe Maybank....what was he thinking of !.

He always looked to be an awkward player to me, not the most skillful but probably very difficult for defenders to play against. I can remember him getting a hat trick in a 5-0 demolition of Cardif at the Goldstone, got a feeling it may have been on a Boxing Day but can't be certain, was a long time ago!

That run, or his walk, plus his liking of fish earned him the nickname of Penguin from his teammates.

Teddy was a player's player. A great target man and very brave. He got in where it hurt.

Boxing Day 1988 against Cardiff where we won 5-0 I think.

Used to see him in Greenhouse Effect (see video) and did a duet once with him. Sometimes saw him in Why Not in Blatchington Road where he had a flat.

Maybank obviously told Cilla Black a few fibs when on the show. He made the screws the week after where they revealed he already had a girlfriend.
