You cann't blame the telesales workers for doing it. It's a job that requires minimal training and gives an almost immediate start. As well as this the slary isn't that bad in the short term.

If you are gonna have a go, have a go at the companies because they are the people who pay others to phone you up and try to sell you something.

Did you know Brighton and Hove has the highest number of telesales operatives in the country, imagine the unemployment rates if they were jobless?

Oh yeah, another thing. How many times do you get called every week? It sounds to me like a lot of you are getting 3/4 calls a day.

Stop moaning, you don't have to listen and one day you might actually take advantage of one of these calls (they wouldn't bother if people didn't).

chappers and poke.

Its a very hard job to do and some of the time i did save people money,But other times it made no difference to the price they were already getting.

Some people on Nchat are a little quick to jump on the attack and have a rant.

I hate the way they always ring at key times, like when you have just got in from work and are having your tea.
They have even started ringing on sundays now.
I hate them (Sorry Poke).
If I want something I will go out and buy it.

If someone calls me up and asks if I want insurance, I am hardly going to say ' hmmm yes, I' ll think I will treat myself today, yes some new insurance that sounds nice, lovely thanks so much for calling, I wouldnt have thought of that otherwise'.

It should be made illegal, I find it an invasion of my personal time and space.

I know its your job Poke, but trust me, there are others out there, dont stoop to this. You are worse than Estate Agents.

Rant over.

If you don't want such calls you can register for free with the Telephone Preference Service.

Once your listed with them - you don't get such crap calls.

I used to get at least 3 a week. Now I get 1 or 2 a year. It definitely works.

Face it, tele-sales is nobody's preferred choice of work anymore than carrying a clipboard for charity mugging is. It's just skint students trying to get by. Easy to get angry at the sellers just as it's easy to get angry at the poor saps trying to do a decent job on the front line of the privatised railways (Enemies Of The People). In all these cases it's the institutionalised wide-boys behind the companies that deserve the MAJOR kicking cos these are the creeps responsible for introducing just another unwelcome bit of noise into your life, whether it's somebody hijacking your browser or attempting to gate-crash your inbox with badly-spelt Cheap Viagra Offers.

As for Brighton, the real scandal is that everybody's somehow expected to pay London prices for housing, football, beer and all the rest of it, and all that's available is McJobs. Same as it ever was.

I don't mind telesales, I have to do it from time to time to get new customers although it is business to business rather than the general public.

It's a fact of life, if you have a business, you have to sell your product or service or you don't earn money.

Perhaps the anti's should spend some time at the sharp end of their employers business and then they may appreciate why it is they have a job at all, after all, no customers = no work = no pay.

Is it true that because the phoning round is automated, there's a three or four second delay between you picking up the phone and you being allocated an operator who eventually says "Is that Mrs XXXXX"?

If I say "hello" and don't get an instant reply I always put the phone down.

9 times out of 10 no-one calls back, I assume because the system has gone on to the next phone number.

If I get it wrong and it's my mum being a bit slow she always assumes that I've dropped the phone and calls back.

Lush yes it is something called an automated dialer (too long in the telecoms industry). It automatically dials your number and then if an agent is free they take the call when you answer. If no agent is free then when you pick the call up, the computer dumps it. Verty annoying and they were looking at making them illeagal in a Business to consumer environment.

If you ever want to have fun with Telemarketeers, try and knock them off the script they are reading from, throws them and then they try and kill the call.....

Did double glazing telesales in my teens, and it brought in a handy bit of cash, so I don't tend to give them a hard time now.

Mind you, I'm nearly always plugged in to the internet of an evening, and I'm still on 56k dial-up which ties up my landline, so no bugger can get through anyway.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Its a real tough gig in telesales, I've never done it, but know via my sister that I should think myself lucky I am in a job I enjoy.

She worked for a well known Kitchens firm, but she was amazed that you would always get 1 in every 50 calls to agree to see a rep, so for her that was £20 a go for her, so she ended up doing all right as a student.

Sole destroying tho:shootself

Telesales are bloody annyoing. We put our number on a,list which makes it illegal for them to call us. Nice quiet nights in now without the phone ringing every ten minutes
