Salted butter at breakfast time. Depending on the bread, this will either be:

- Applied within seconds of it popping up. This I find works best with cheaper store-bought bread such as 'Warburtons Toastie'.
- Applied after the bread has been left to cool in a toast rack. I find this is the best approach for higher quality fresh loaves.

For lunch/snacks, I would usually go with melted Cathedral City cheddar on toast.

I think that you have got it spot on!

Either:

1. Toasted soughdough bread, wait to cool, add butter followed by Marmite, both spread quite generously

OR

2. Toasted pan de campo, rub garlic clove onto pan, apply generous portion of good quality olive oil, sliced fresh tomato on toast, add salt and finely chopped remains of garlic clove - consume

MARMITE and melted butter. Has to be applied within 10 seconds of the toast popping up.

Can't understand how you do that and don't end up with a hole in front of you and a glob of Marshite underneath.

For me toast has to be cooled about half way before butter on and then the brown stuff, which by then, spreads nice and evenly

The toast must always be from a handcut loaf - sliced toast tastes like cardboard - preferably cut thin so the edges are singed. It is allowed to go just about cold before unsalted butter and Wilkins - always Wilkins - tawny marmalade is spread generously on top.

Best combined with Twinings tea and at least one morning newspaper.
