I've seen some pretty hysterical comments in the past few days about us losing friendlies and how this is a catastrophic omen for the season ahead.
I always thought that friendlies were played SOLELY to get the players ready for the season ahead and that the results of these games were completely irrelevant. It's all about fitness, conditioning and team shape.
Are we victims of the ludicrous hype that surrounds The Premier League, where pre-season trophies seem to be given the same weight as the FA or League Cups? I guess the proof of the pudding will be seen in a few weeks, but didn't we have a pretty up and down pre-season last year? That didn't turn out too badly.
