Molumby looked absolutely first class. I was impressed with the whole performance. So assured and with a new striking option we will be mid table at the very worst.

MAUPAY IS GREAT BUT NOT A PEN TAKER!

Aaron is a 15+ goal striker this season...love his attitude!

Great stuff!

Molumby did what Stephens is meant to do.

Gross did score against United and, yes, today's penalty was impressive. He did miss the one he took sandwiched in between these two. I think it was against Leicester, but might be wrong.

I believe it was against Fulham 2 seasons ago when he was injured.

Not knocking this but their last 30 minutes XI was not a patch on their first half XI. Hard to judge Sanders, Stephens and co on that.

I think that’s fair, but perhaps our 13th to 25th player is at least on a par with Chelsea, so effectively we are getting there re squad depth.

In other news, Frank Lampard offered Tony Bloom £20m for young Lamptey after that second half performance

Lampard also had a word about the bloke on the left flank in the first half, er, March is his name. Got in behind a fair few times in the first half. Gave Reece James a right old game. He’s a bit suspect in the air though.

I'd add that with more pace elsewhere in the starting line up his lack of pace can be carried better and he can be a very incisive passer with runners going past him.

Gross has always been quality and puts the miles in (IIRC he always tops the Km covered) but is sadly very slow. However, surround him with quick youngsters and it wouldn't surprise me to see a resurgence from one of our most creative players

Erm. We are strengthening of course but remember Chelsea were missing Abraham, Pulisic, Rudiger, Azpilicuetta, Mount, Tomori so we're some way off comparisons with Chelsea just yet.

Being slightly less optimistic, the main thing I learnt is we really do need to sign at least one new attacker. That lack of quality in the final third is going to kill us otherwise. With Rodrigo to Leeds, looks like Watkins to Villa and Nunez to Benfica, and Eduoard looking likely to stay at Celtic, we’re at risk of having to go down the list and get more desperate again (also known as ‘Locadiaville’). Hoping we have a secret gem in the pipeline but I am concerned (also hope that’s it’s not Dia who doesn’t look the answer to me).

Glad it wasn’t just me that thought that, also one or two others had gained a pound or two the last 4 weeks I thought.

I reckon they have been on the weights and a higher protein diet, as long as he has not lost his power to weigh ratio as we need him quick too!

Does anyone know what he has been up too???

Yes fair comment, based my comments on yesterday - think 2-3 of those would strengthen us. [emoji6][emoji2]

This.

It’s way too much to put all on Maupay.

I get the impression the club are making serious attempts to land a striker though this window. So am optimistic we will get one. May go right to the wire of course.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Molumby did what Stephens is meant to do.

Let's not get carried away, Molumby looked ok, retained possession and recycled the ball well enough. But hardly a performance that was antything different to that which Dale produces every week.

Only when Dale and subsequently Max Saunders was introduced, taking over the defensive midfield duties, did Molumby cross the half way line and even then I can't remember any great offensive actions.

He looks a good prospect, but with Stephens and Propper ahead of him, I'd be surprised if Molumby wasn't loaned out again this season.

I think that's his game though. A sitting midfielder. Most of those won't wow you in their 45 minute debut, but he did what he needed. Got on the ball and dictated play and anticipated where he needed to be when they were in possession. He's ready to compete for a place.

So consensus is we still need another striker and lamptey style left back? I was hoping for another winger too but that might be wishful thinking.

Better than Bissouma? Webster played well but was careless a few times in the first half passing wise. (Still an 8 IMO).

But Bissouma was brilliant..... best player on pitch.

Thought Alzate was good as well.

Yes, I do think he was better than Bissouma, who was very good, but not quite as good as Webster. My missus, son and I all made predictions for the forthcoming season, and she and I both had Biss as our PotS (he had Dunk).
