It will be interesting to see who takes our next penalty... Maupay’s record is actually really good. He’s scored 8 and missed one in all competitive games during his career.

We need a rule. Miss a penalty and you play the rest of the game in your pants.

Worth saying though, the injury came whilst making a terrific claim from a cross. I know what you mean though he had a very poor moment with the ball at his feet earlier

He let his defenders know that he was coming for that cross too. We could hear him from near the half-way line. We could hear Lallana a lot in the first half, too.

Did he miss one?

Good pen today and previously versus Utd.

I know Murray missed several

Gross did score against United and, yes, today's penalty was impressive. He did miss the one he took sandwiched in between these two. I think it was against Leicester, but might be wrong.

That we seem to have the requisite two quality players in each position barring up front. The best collection of players I can recall. I see Maupay and Connolly as our only teal quality options up front as Murray won’t be capable of selection for every game. We need one or two quality strikers to have a chance of getting to the top ten.

Selection issues abound!

Veltman looked assured in the first half and Lamptey in the second. Not sure both of them and White can start. Similarly you've probably got Propper, Stephens, Molumby and Sanders competing for two midfield spots in the 18 when we get going (like others I liked Alzate and Biss together so those 2 spots may well be on the bench, to boot).

In other news Gross isn't done yet. Looked great when he came on. And Webster was superb at LCB. I genuinely can't believe the comment that said he shouldn't be there. Was playing right in front of me in the first half and was comfortably one of our best players.

Well, I'll give you a gold star for being the first poster to heap praise on Webster who was quite comfortably our best player today in my view. He played left-sided CB a fair bit at Brizzle I understand. His passing is swift, he brings the ball out to disrupt the opposition's lines, reads the game extremely well, and is really, really swift.
I doubt Sanders will be around this season for a CM spot, but would certainly rate Molumby ahead of Stephens, but the first CM pick is as simple as A&B.

A good test today. White looked very assured and strong, MacAllister showed signs he might come good his season, Veltman looks a decent signing, Lallana will help the younger players for sure and i was impressed with Molumby when he came on. Webster and Lamptey continued where they left off, in great form.

Ah right - still think he’s steady.

That was Maupay.

Molumby looks a player. That’s the main takeaway from today for me.

Scoring a pen against Kasper Schmichel is nigh on impossible though. Or at least we've made it look that way for years.

Agreed. You could tell it was a level he hadn't faced often, but he did alright in his little cameo. Could def do with another season out on loan to aid his development.

Molumby did look good, I can see him linking up well with Biss (who is the 1st name in midfield now) and whoever partners him - Alzate looked good, and good to see him in CM as he hasn't been there much.

In other news - too soon to know the extent of Walton's injury?

Better than Bissouma? Webster played well but was careless a few times in the first half passing wise. (Still an 8 IMO).

But Bissouma was brilliant..... best player on pitch.

Thought Alzate was good as well.

Agreed.....Webster never put a foot wrong. Since lockdown he’s looked mightily assured. Really excited about playing the 3 CBs that started, with Lallana, Alzate and Biss in front of them. Molumby looked very comfortable when he came on.

Oh and AJ looks the spitting image of Maupay with his new haircut

Did AJ get on then? Must have missed that - I got a bit lost at the end (not at the ground, just following on tele). So does that mean that the only player in the squad who didn't get on was Gyokeres?

Surprised no one mentioned how ****ing good Burn was. Should easily be the left-footed CB Southgate is looking for. Its just a really good player and should be taken seriously rather than people considering him "the freak on left back".

Yes, another year away on loan for Sanders. Towards the corner I saw him get brushed off the ball very easily. Best thing that could have happened. He'll know what physical level he'll have to get himself to to have a pl career now
