What car do you drive?

Right here, right now
And why? Is it a company car and do you have a choice of cars to choose from? Or if it is your own car, was the choice down to ecological reasons or was it just what you could afford?

We have a Mazda 626 Estate that the wife mainly uses for carting the kids about with all their football clobber and it is very useful for taking rubbish etc to the local tip.

I drive a Fiesta because I work 35 miles away and it is economical to use.

Audi A4 Cabriolet 3.2 because I wanted a soft top as never driven one before, but have two kids so needed one that would have some space in the back for them. This fitted those requirements.

Golf GTTdi, wanted something that was cheapish to run (good fuel economy), not too high on the insurance but with a bit of poke when needed (a car of that size with 130bhp does not disappoint).

how many mpg do you get, and what is a typical service cost. was looking at those myself a while ago

I can get almost 60mpg on a long run, that is to say on motorways and sticking to the speed limit...guess it is about 45mpg around town. I only get it serviced once a year as I don't drive that many miles, think it costs about £150 but I do go back to the main dealer, it is due its MoT soon and I will probably look for somewhere cheaper.

To be honest one of the main reasons I bought it, nearly four years ago, was that I intended to keep it for a long time and pretty much drive it into the ground...but it is now 6 years old and still has less than 50k miles on the clock so it is barely run in.

Daihatsu Fourtrak 140000k

King of the road.

Used for towing the horses, also big enough for the three children to fit into and the four wheel drive comes in useful cross country and when we get snow in this wild and lonely place.

I did without a car when I came back for the US, frankly I didn't really need one. However I got soaked two days running waiting for a bus then I got messed about by buses just not turning up for two days running. On the 5th day I went out and bought this old (9 years) but very low mileage Rover 420 for less than a grand. The fact that my personal circumstances will change in a couple of months also makes more reason for having a car also. It's not a great car but it ticks all the boxes I need.

I've got the most boring car in the world - a VW Polo in a particularly dusty shade of dark blue with added dog hair. However, it's reliable and came with a very low mileage because it'd belonged to an aged relative who'd stopped driving. It's an automatic (which is why we bought it because my foot won't tolerate much driving in a proper car) and suits me fine since I'm fairly disinterested in cars anyway.
