Lewes is almost completely shut off. I tried getting to work this morning at 6.30 and had to leave my car down the end of the road due to black ice. Some of the worst conditions i've ever seen.

freezing fog and loads of snow here in east herts. Its not snowed since Monday but no sign of a thaw here. My road has now been frozen for a week and all the salt bins are empty.

As for gritters - since the freeze arrived a week ago I have seen 1 gritter. The depot is about half a mile away!

You council tax money hard at work.

That'll cost you, once the parking wardens get going. At least the income from fines is being put to good effect, funding constant improvements to the local highway network.

Driving in to Haywards Heath this morning, I saw FOUR accidents happen right in front of me, one after the other. The rain just turned to black ice almost on impact. As I came off a roundabout, there was a car in a ditch with a copper already there, diverting traffic round it. So I crawled past, and luckily I'd been slowed down for that, because ahead of me, cars coming the other way which were doing no more than 30 suddenly started drifting off the road completely out of control, crashing up the curbs and onto verges, or into each other. Fortunately it happened far enough ahead that nothing came sliding across into me, but there was nothing anyone could do about it. Cars strewn ALL OVER the place.

Christ knows how I'm getting home tonight. That was undrivable.

Well here in Sunny Seaford there are no probs, we seem to have had a soaking overnight but all the slush has gone. And it's quite mild.

I'm hoping for a bit of a thaw today and good weather tommorrow. I will be driving from Wolverhampton to Littlehampton tomorrow and, to be frank, am somewhat worried about the conditions.

I've never seen anything like the black ice on my road in my life!

Just made a 4th aborted attempt to get to work - my record so far is about 15 metres from the front door, but I did stack it big style, so I lose points!

All buses and taxis have been pulled off the roads in Southampton.
