My biggest issue with Montoya, who I think has come on loads defensively since his early performances, is his propensity to bring the ball inside with his first touch. It puts him under so much unnecessary pressure by pushing him into the most crowded area of the pitch rather than opening his body up the way, for example, Bruno used to.

I am not expecting Wolves to change 3 or 4 players just for us or any of the other teams we got coming up. I have not got the stats to prove it but most teams put there regular players in unless there is injuries .They bring on subs to change things in the game .It is proven not to work for us anyway . We also change tactics change of formation a lot .

Absolutely, but we are talking about Potter here. Only Ryan and Dunk seem to be certainties in the starting line up

Quality FB’s such as Bruno retain their place. Clubs do not keep rotating FB’s, it’s normal thinking that a settled back 5 including the goalie is a key component of a successful team.

RB has obviously been a concern for CH and GP. Hopefully Lamptey is ready soon, and perhaps we’ll be looking at a signing in the summer if we stay up.

Last season Montoya and Bruno rotated a lot. Everyone in our back five bar Dunk and Ryan have rotated this season.

Just to clarify, I’m not claiming Montoya is an outstanding player, I’m merely pointing out that for the OP to pick him out specifically with a resale value of £0 is laughable. It’s just frustrating watching fans with unrealistic expectations crucify certain players, especially, on the back of a decent performance against Palace IMO.

It’s intriguing that he should be getting stick when Schelotto was ‘MOTM’ for so many. Schelotto was clearly the plan B for when MM inevitably got a yellow against Mr Tumble and managed to weaken our options through his booking, yet he is getting lauded.

We'll get loads less if we drop, as we're selling from a weaker bargaining position

It’s how many people want the player that will determine the value, not the strength of our position. If 2 or 3 sides want the player then they’ll bid accordingly. If only 1 team is interested, then yes you’re likely right, but they could be desperate for a player with PL experience, which like we have found is hard to come by.

To return to the original question, I presume Propper would go back to Holland for about £10m. Trossard and Jahanbakhsh will also end up back somewhere in northern Europe for about half what we paid. Dunk to Chelsea for £35m, Duffy to West Brom on loan with a view to a permanent deal, Ryan and Mooy to Germany for a couple of million each. White to the highest bidder. Izquierdo will retire. Mac Allister will go back to Boca on loan, this time with an option to buy if we don't go straight back up. Montoya back to a lower-half team in La Liga for a couple of mill. Button and Steele will go on frees. Bissouma on loan to somewhere in France.

That will leave us with Walton in goal, Schelotto at right back, any two of Webster, Burn and Roberts in the centre and Bernardo on the left. Alzate and Stephens in centre midfield, Lamptey and March wide, Molumby and Gross battling for the number ten role and Connolly and Maupay still failing to keep Murray out of the side. Probably.

Great post and all, but presumably Matt Clarke will be at our disposal as well.

You don’t rotate fullbacks generally. MM would have retained his place had he been playing well, Hughton had to turn to Bruno’s experience to settle the team and add some calmness even though Bruno was finding it hard to complete full 90mins and recover after.

MM tries his best, he works hard for the team and plays within his abilities. It’s not his fault that really he is lacking in what we need from a PL RB. It’s not really giving him stick. Under 2 managers he’s not nailed down that RB position, and really rotation is not a realistic explanation for that role.

I’d be very disappointed at most of the valuations you’re stating. And I don’t think we’d see that big of a turn over of players. It rarely happens, let alone for a team that has never over extended itself financially.

Again, who’s our first choice left back? Centre halves in a two or a three? Attacking right and left midfield? Even the a Propper abd Stephens pairing looks under threat right now and our top scorer didn’t start a couple of games ago.

Personally, I think Potter would love to be picking a settled side, but as Stat Brother has been saying, players simply haven't been doing anywhere near enough to nail down a place. So they play a few games, then look a bit crap, get subbed, sub comes on and looks great for 25mins, saves us the game perhaps, and earns a start. They then repeat the process.

Burn is clearly the first choice LB. He was only out through injury and is now straight back. Centre halves has been an issue through the form of Webster and Duffy, neither have shone and both been making mistakes. I would have thought Duffy would have retained his place had he not had to drop out at the weekend. If Montoya was good enough and offered more going forward, he'd be nailed on start every game.

What we're seeing isn't rotation, which suggests unforced resting of players, we're seeing selections trying to find a solution to poor defensive mistakes, and scoring more goals. If that was happening, I think we'd be seeing a far more settled side.

Even though he did this from game 1 and consistently at Swansea?

PS Montoya has the eighth most appearances for us this season

Knockaert £14m - I believe a deal was done that they have agreed to buy him at the end of the season.
Dunk £20-£25m - Definitely our main asset
Ryan £3m - Can't see a queue of clubs lining up to take him to be honest
Ali J £1m
Locadia - A pack of crisps

FFS I am not 'crucifying' Montoya. He's actually decent on crosses.

I just think he may leave on a free. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

Good point about rotation - isn’t it used to rest selected players (other than the goalie & defenders) in a winning team? Especially if they have a heavy fixture schedule.

Swansea had the squad ripped out of them trying to save costs before GP arrived. Potter gave numerous debuts to kids such as Daniel James, loaned out squad players like Oli McBurnie came back etc. etc. A set of circumstances that led to a fair amount of chopping and changing.

Exactly, you're not resting any of our team because they've had a good game and you want to save them. Hell no. Every change Potter is making is to try and get us that win, try to get us those goals. Unless forced, each change is because he thinks there is a better option waiting to come in.

I think Potter made just a single change between winning at Arsenal then home to Wolves and that was Connolly. After the Noriwch win, Duffy had replaced the injured Webster and that starting XI stayed the same effectively at ManUtd. Between Bournemouth win at home, think we made only 2 changes home to Chelsea which was in a very busy period.

We start winning/scoring I don't think the team will be changing anywhere near as much.
