what affect would relegation have on the club?

I wouldn't even be concerned about relegation, but the end of a season going badly in the championship and the fair-weather fans voting with their feet and finding other things to do on a Saturday afternoon.

If we'd get relegated, and the price of the season tickets stayed the same, I imagine we'd get about 10,000 STH maximum but more people buying the odd game. But they would have to drop the ticket prices considerably, along with the programme costs and catering to make it more attractive. Personally I am concerned the Club have gone for expansion too early - I feel it would have been more appropriate to 'cook demand' at 22,500 and then expand after a couple of years.

Would getting relegated make the club consider the fans more? It seems they are getting carried away with the thought that 22,000 is just the tip of the potential fan base rather than a great asset to be treasured??? Might give them a reality check if we got relegated at some point?
of course it would, all the glory hunters would do one and the club could ditch the snitch line that's a good move in itself, get back to the hard core support that really cares , IT WILL COME AT SOME POINT THAT'S FOR SURE .

Why? With all the hype around Brighton at the moment they should take every opportunity to convert some non-fans into long term fans. If we are a mid-table championship side in three years time do you think we'll still be able to attract 27,500? If people find it difficult to get a ticket because there are almost no single match tickets this year they may be put off in the future too.

I'm more concerned about people not knowing the difference between effect and affect.

Why does that concern you? Bigger things in the world to worry about; we weren't even taught it in school and so it can't be high up on the list of government priorities.

these fans need 4/5 years to feel a real belonging,so trying to squeeze these people too early might give them an excuse to walk

You should have been taught it in school, at primary school level. The government should be concerned about literacy.

Absolutely agree with your last senetence. It will certainly make getting home easier. But I think and hope Gus's legacy will be to make us a solid high-achieving championship club. I think it will be a few years before we have the makings of a team that could survive on going up to the premiership. I'm grateful for everything we've got at the moment and trust the set up to continue taking us forward in a sustainable way. Hope Gus and Tony and Barber can take us to the promised land somewhere down the line and keep us there.

Pure ecomomics - supply and demand. If the supply is fixed the demand and perceived value will always increase, now the Club cannot seem to sell out complete sections of the groud in past games. At present the Club's website news article about 'pushing attendances' does look rather pathectic imho.

Relegation would have an obvious effect - fewer people would attend - no question. My concern is also that having gone from the Withdean numbers (7000 - 8000), jumping to around 22,000 on the back of the stadium opening, to already go to 30,000 with high entry prices seems like a real weight of over-expectation on the part of the club. Empty seats just don't look good, and if there are continued spells of Championship football at high price points in a challenging economic time, the waverers will disappear.

Premier league status would fill the ground most weeks, and therefore the club is properly equipped for promotion off the field - without it the club will certainly need to consider all groups of fans very carefully and positively, if we are not to be left with a half-full wonderful stadium.

I don't get all this b***Sh** about the club not valuing the fans, etc.

Care to explain what is actually mean't by it or is it just another trolling excerise and the latest 'in' thing to do to try to look or sound big and get attention?

Hardly pathetic.

Agree and that's what I think Gus and Tony think too. They want us sustainable and seen as a big club before we go up. That's why Gus keeps banging on about making us a solid championship club and why he seemed almost please to see us hammered by Stoke and Liverpool to give us a reality check. The whole appointment of Barber and the club's marketing policy is to prepare us. If we go up we will need to spend big and we need to have fuller coffers. At the moment we are in a fantastic position. We are doing well, not under or over achieving. But we are close and I think the club is seriously worried about going up too soon and shares your concern the cost of keeping us there would be unsustainable with current finances.
