Westlake back to Leeds?

I spoke to one of our squad players yesterday whilst out shopping and he thinks Leeds United will turn down our approach to keep Westlake at the club for the remainder of the season as they feel it may hinder their own chances to make the play-offs.

I think when we originally got him here we looked like not getting near the play-offs but have gone above our own expectations and look like acheiving it.

The player also stated that Dick Knight is in talks about Westlake signing permanent next season but guess that might depend what division we will be playing .:albion2:

sounds reasonable actually and certainly unsurprising on both counts.
I still think loaning a player to a team in the same division/league should not be allowed.

We will struggle to replace him this late in the game unless Lloyd has been touring Europe again ? (live in hope...)

Unless you name this person I won't believe you

What is it with NSC would anybody expect you to name the source of info and drop him in the shit. Of course they shouldn 't. I am sure that there are many on here who speak to players under differing circumstances and are told different things but wouldnt even consider naming the player.

I think that such a move by Leeds was as obvious as your nose being on your face.

I suppose what we need to do is keep track of the tipsters and see who are accurate - and therefore credible - and who is just pissing in the wind.

Then we can give credence, or not, to any comments like those above.

And does it even matter?
This is all pretty much common sense i'd have thought?!

Would Leeds have concerns about one of their own plays hindering their chances of promotion? Of course!
Might they recall him? Of course!
Would we be interested in signing him? Of course!
Might it be dependent on certain factors? Of course!

You are completely right of course.

I was just cheekily asking for a name, something I think a few of us would have been keen to find out?

How about, we as club SUPPORT Leeds getting their 15 points back and in return we get to keep Westlake. That must be a dodgy enough deal to appeal to Bates

if you loan out a player to a club in your own league and they do well you can unduly influence that team's performance (by pulling the player back and also by dictating that they can't play in all games ie. against your own team).

If Leeds were credited with being very intelligent (as some onm here have said) you could suggest that they have manipulated our results against their (percieved) competitors by lending us westlake, and will then withdraw his services before it has an adverse effect on their own promotion chances.

Machievellian perhaps but any team should only be able to influence its own performance in relation to competitors and not that of others

And if you read the Argus this morning that's what Andy Naylor's article is saying albeit in indirect terms.

Westlake's Albion future is uncertain
Ian Westlake is unsure about how much longer he will be with Albion.

Westlake cannot play against Leeds, his parent club and one of the Seagulls' play-off rivals, at Elland Road on March 29 and the left-sided midfielder's month on loan ends a week later.

He said: "I have no idea what is happening. If we are winning games and I am playing like I am I would be more than happy to stay but football is football and you never know.

"I am here and it's nice to be playing and be part of a good team but, as far as the future goes, I don't know."

Westlake makes his fifth successive appearance for the Seagulls at Huddersfield tomorrow night (Tues) after impressing in Saturday's 1-0 home win over Doncaster.

He said: "I love playing and it's nice to be here. I haven't been smiling so much for a long time.

"It was so nice at the weekend. We played well, the crowd were brilliant and it was nice to feel part of a team that just enjoy every day.

"I was pleased with my performance against Doncaster.

"That was probably my best so far. I hadn't played since Christmas but I have come here and had four games in two weeks, which is exactly what I needed. Hopefully I will get better every game."

Westlake has Kerry Mayo behind him again tomorrow (Tues) after former Ipswich team-mate Matt Richards suffered a hamstring injury in the first half against Doncaster.

He said: "Kerry was brilliant at the weekend. I was like 'wow' - I didn't know how good he is! He was superb.

"Obviously Richo is a miss and I do like to play with him but you have got to play with other left-backs.

"Me and Matt can't go everywhere together for all our careers."

More so if Westlake scored the winning goal for us in the playoff final against Leeds

that would be really great ...................and although I would begrudge Leeds getting their points back would support that if it meant they got automatic promotion and we could use Westlake to get through the play=offs and join them with him as an Albion signing......................we can but dream:albion2:
