It's not like Liverpool have won much recently either, what's wrong with supporting your local team?
I am not from Brighton, so they are not my local team....

So if I lived in, say, Handcross and normally supported Brighton, if they played Crawley I should support Crawley as they're my local team?
Fair enough, if you're from North London.I am not from Brighton, so they are not my local team....
So people from Shoreham or Saltdean couldn't support Brighton?no you would support Brighton, you have already abandoned Crawley, it all about loyalty to your home town mate nothing else

and Shoreham is in a different countyNot sure about Shoreham, but Saltdean (well at least West Saltdean) is part of the city of Brighton & Hove.
Frank Skinner said this in a stand up. You are born, you get a map out, find the nearest team and that is you set for life no matter what.

I would be mortified if this was rigorously applied. My son was, through no fault of his own, but through necessity, born in St Mary's in Portsmouth, and we could hear that **** with the handbell when Pompey were playing at home whilst we were in the intensive care unit. Had to wait 9 weeks till I could bring him home to Sussex. I will have failed as a father if he grows up supporting that shower of shite.
Exactly. If I was born and bred in Croydon then I would be a Palace fan. I do actually have a fair bit of respect for Palace fans because it would be so easy to support Chelsea or Arsenal via a short train journey.
But I wouldn't be supporting my home town would I? In my example I'm not from Brighton but I've chosen to support them. Anyway, personally speaking, if you're only 'allowed' to support your home town I'm stuck supporting Palace then. Oh well ...no you would support Brighton, you have already abandoned Crawley, it all about loyalty to your home town mate nothing else
So, Tommy Elphick, born & brought up in Woodingdean, shouldn't support Liverpool, or Adam El-Abd, from Saltdean, shouldn't be a Forest supporter?
It happens.
Just cos they're pro footballers doesn't make an ounce of difference to me. Not sure the reasons for El Abds but Elphick is a glory supporter and should be treated with the contempt that you'd treat any glory supporter (largely ignore anything they say about football!)
Even though he went to matches, & wasn't just an armchair fan?
Absolutely 100% this. You know they are plastics when they wear a replica shirt with a misspelt name on it
