okay i confess.....i'm going to support my local team in the Conference Play-Off final at Wembley on sunday (i'm really going to see the new stadium, along with 28,000 other Exeter City "fans")

The last time i went to Wembley was for the Play-Off Final against Nott's County back in 1990, or was it '91?

On that day, i parked the motor at Rickmansworth, and got the tube from there. I don't really want to do that this time though, i was wondering if any of you good people have got any better ideas?

Someone told me that you need a residents permit to park around the stadium on big match days (is this a big match?) Is there anywhere i can park that's within walking distance? Does anybody know how close i can get to the stadium in order to park, and get the tube? Must be somewhere closer than Rickmansworth.

Any suggestions are appreciated, except the usual ones, like "stay in bed", "watch it down the boozer" etc...:D

Thanks in advance.

There appear to be lots of unofficial car parks in and around the area charging something like £10 - they are quite randomly placed.

I managed to find a spot in a residential road that was a parking meter. Sheer luck - I will try and find out which road as I had never driven there before, so it is all a bit vague. It took hours to get out though!

I would imagine that Hillingdon would be a decent place to park and is only about 8 or 9 stops from Wembley Park station. Having said that - I don't know where Rickmansworth is, so they may be of a similar distance.

Some of these are quite cheap...

Rickmansworth is a lot further out, on a par with Watford.

My line manager is going to the game tomorrow, he was talking about parking his car at either Uxbridge or Northolt and getting the tube/train to the ground, figured that most people would be going out to the ground from the London side...look on a tube/rail map and pick somewhere a couple of stops from Wembley and you should be absolutely fine. Enjoy the game.

Okay, thanks a lot for those suggestions, and any others. I'll look into those.

When i went to the u21's game in march i got the tube to Maylebone and got an overland train, also did this after the match and took no time at all, rather than getting the tube all the way there

Uxbridge or Northolt are an ideal distance away.

There are a few big Car Parks about 20 minutes walk away. Two I can think of are at Ikea and Tesco's. We parked in the Tesco one for the '91 play-off final and it was full of Notts County and BHA cars. They may be stricter now that the Stadium car park is restricted but they are worth a try.

St. Anmore
I live in Stanmore which is 3 stops up from Wembley Park. Would be very easy to park round here somewhere and walk to either Stanmore, Canons Park or Queensbury stations...
Few boozers around and places for lunch...

I went last week to the Truro game.

We parked at South Ruislip for a quid for the day in the station car park. From there it is a 10 minute train journey into Wembley Stadium station costing £2.80 return

South Ruislip is just off the M/A40 and is about 10 or so mins from the M25 J16.

Easy...
