He was much improved tonight but still looked a little dodgy, I wouldn't say he's our most talented defender either let alone the most talented player at the club!
A very good player imo but error prone and often seems unable to pass effectively from defence.

Agreed.

That quality last ditch tackle right in front of goal was a champagne moment tonight though.

Didnt think that he was our best player tonight not by a distance. He played bnetter than he has all season but was still verysuspect in some of his tackles and his distribution is appalling. Good in the air both in defence and obviously for the goal.

I was chatting to some people around me last night, and we all thought that his goal redeemed a rather patchy performance from our Tommy. From that hideous challenge in the 1st minute to numerous blatant pushes in the back, and culminating with that cross field pass he scared me at times.

To counterbalance that he still put in some great defensive tackles and headers in the box, and of course he got that 2nd goal, which is always nice.

He's a 100% commited player, Albion through and through, and is a real prospect. He just needs to develop some consistency.

I'd personally prefer Tunny in the middle with Virgo...

100% agree.

I thought he played like an idiot possessed in the first half. I certainly thought the curly finger was beckoning for him. Second half, he thankfully knuckled down and played much better. Good finish for his goal.

No where near out best player, very lucky not to get a yellow in the first minute, the stupid pushing in the first half for which he was right to get a yellow for but after that he improved a lot. Cross field ball in the second half was awful but did well to recover. All in all think Tunnicliffe was very unlucky to be dropped for either Virgo or Elphick

Yeah the fact the poster of the thread says "sounds like" pretty much invalidates his comments.

Elphick was alright last night, by no means collossal and occasionally looked a bit suspect. Prefer to see Tunnicliffe and Virgs still I think

Agree to a point , he did well once he had calmed down but I thought as well he was looking to be sent of as he seemed incapable of making a defensive header without shoving the guy in front. They were not subtle nudges a la Guy Butters but two handed shoves right in front of the ref. I would have taken him off at half time to avoid going down to 10 again, but to be fair to Slade and in hindsight I agree he did well in th second half so glad he remained. The goal was what he needed so hopefully he will get his old confidence back and become the player we all know he should be....

Elphick is asked a lot of, if he's expected to get forward and score goals, as well as defend our goal. That's the length of the pitch he has to cover, and if Mr Slade is making it a requirement to go for glory as well as make his way back and cover FDM, then I'd have to criticize Slade's response when blaming TE for a goal against.

The CAPTAIN is supposed to be aware and arrange to cover for areas where we are exposed on the pitch, and at the time that they arise.

Tom Elphick scored an excellent goal last night, and all credit for dispatching it with aplomb like he did.

IF and WHEN he is slow to pick up his man and make a challenge he gets flak - then it's still just as deserved. He does still have to work on his game to be the player that many have already said he is! His loping running often looks slow, and effortlessness is not great when the result is negative. He's not asked to be Usain Bolt, but as with everyone else (i.e. Murray, who was full of running last night) he is wanted to put his back into it as and when need arises.

He looks physically like a Lawrenson, if he could be spurred on to be anywhere near that good, then everyone wins. He LOOKS the part, of a great player - just want him to live up to the look!

Tommy Elphick's goal celebration was the undoubted highlight of the evening.

He ran along in front of the North stand, pointing at his 'name' on the back of his shirt....

... obviously forgetting that he had swapped it for a blank one five minutes earlier, after getting blood on his.

Genius.
