No chance with Southgate in charge.

Sadly that is true. Hell would need to freeze over before he picks an Albion player for a meaningful game

Awesome today

The Seagull will be along to take the piss any minute :moo:

:laugh:that’s sooo funny. He had a quality first half, tired in 2nd half and change of formation didn’t help. I hope he plays like this all season. World Cup is obviously not gonna happen whoever the manager is but it’s a positive for us.

Welbeck is getting better and better too. Staggering after the injuries he’s had and is now 31. Keep him fit, or even fit enough for most games, and he’ll have an excellent season. Deserves it after working so hard.

Brilliant performance, but let's face it he isn't going to play for England.

The best we can hope for is that he stays fit all season for us.

‘Welbeck’. Where’s the respect? Even Harold Maguire has a thread using his full name on here. It’s akin to people who shout ‘Potter’ at our lord and saviour GP. Disrespectful.

Quite liked this one from Jonathan Wilson:

"[Southgate] His two England forwards, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, were outshone by the largely forgotten Welbeck, who kept plucking passes out of the sky with a deftness that suggested his boots had been fashioned from Niall Quinn’s chest."

Noice.

Yup... like I said yesterday: there's nothing those two can do that Welbeck can't.

And indeed his target game has improved a lot (or maybe he was always good at it but just bought the perception of him as a pace merchant) since he joined the club and spent most of the games hiding between defenders, just waiting for a run. A lot more involved now. Not sure if that is mainly down to the coaching staff or the medical... well, engineering team.
