We need a creative player in central midfield.

I agree with the OP. I think he means someone to spray passes around to the forward runners from alongside Bridcutt. Orlandi, Vicente and Lopez are too busy acting as forwards looking to receive the ball rather than be in that role. Dicker is the closest we have to that.

pretty much, yes

Playing throughballs through a defence that perches on the edge of their box is rather difficult to do. I do worry most when we're a team without pace as that limits us in getting in behind the opposition. There needs to be one avenue for that burst of speed to run into and for us to pose that threat. I pray for Buckley to be back properly soon and reteam up with the Brunes to maraud and be that pairing of slyness and bullet.

i'd like to see us use our wingers pace, we never see any of our players play a ball in behind or over the full backs for buckers or lua lua to run on to. It's not route one just different, for us anyway.

I think the OP is right, we need to get another creative midfielder in. Lopez/Orlandi/Vicente is not enough. Give Poyet another £3m I say, or other than that another £15k a week to spend on wages of a prem loan, or an out of contract lightweight johnny foreigner who hasn't got the guts for the championship battle. That's the way forward.

What about Dobbie? I thought he was going to play the Vicente role? :moo:

Maybe he'll come back in the summer when Vicente has gone and CMS is on his way after finishing the season with 30 goals :jester:

We have enough cultured midfield players. Orlandi can make the role his own.

I would suggest that it is more of a priority to have a more effective version of Hammond/Dicker/Crofts who can take some of the pressure off Bridcutt. Someone with a physical presence who can take control of the midfield by the scruff of the neck. Yesterday was a classic example of how we are lightweight without Bridcutt and can get outgunned in midfield.

Exactly, we have enough skilled forwards now.

We need a tall pacy enforcer now, to counter the team talk of David Jones and all the others "get in Brighton's faces".

I know we have vicente but he will go in the summer and will barely play until then anyway. Bridcutt has too much to do. As a result of the lack of creativity, we rarely play through balls and imo that is the reason why CMS has not shone. I really hope that Gus buys a creative central midfielder in the summer. I do not think we will get in the playoffs this year but still think we are on the up and am very happy as an Albion supporter. Of course we all get frustrated from time to time but calling for the managers' head is irrational imo.

Thoughts?

Thoughts! Well you seem to think that Bridcutt is capable but we shouldn't give him the job because he has too much to do. He is the defensive midfield anchorman. That is the job he does exceptionally well, probably because in his youth he was a centre half I believe. You can't just move him forward and tell him he is now a creative midfielder! Bit like saying to Graham Roberts, 'Glens not well today so could you take over his role? (one for the older fans).

Orlandi not creative then?

Seems unlike a lot of people he doesn't think so.

Bridcutt, and taller powerhouse with him, shielding the back 4, giving the front/wide 4 free rein ... would make us a major force.

We have the quality already. Some of our defending has been shambolic, particularly saturday. Tighten up there and we will win more games simples.

I've never understood why CMS gets such a beating on here. How is he meant to score when he gets the ball by the corner flag?

Spannish Dave, sees the game really well and has assisted as many as he scored, Bridcutt great at getting the ball, but not so good at distribution, can't say I've seen him make a telling pass yet. Deano, not sure what his game is and Orlandi has a questionable work rate. How many more midfielders does Gus want and BTW what about young Forster Caskey, three appearances two goals and then copnsigned to development and post out to Oxford for half a season, its all very strange.

Nail SMASHED into oblivion on the head. Poyet expects his forwards to be everywhere. He plays like Saturday with not just defensive players but with a defensive mindset. I want to see "the missing big man", for which with waited two sodding seasons, playing alongside CMS with a winger. The forwards should be in the 18 yard box corridor not cuddling the linesman.

His comment today relating to he wants to see more of Ulloa and CMS together, there's a simple f**king answer to that GUS and you failed to do it. Start with them!!

It wasn't creativity that was needed in Sheffield but players who could win and keep the ball.

Win, keep and be creative, you need all three to win. Gus fails to see the creative bit.

This. Without Bridders (and Barnes for his defensive work) for the second half on Saturday we were left with Hammond as the only defensive midfielder who tried but looked completely outgunned while he had Orlandi, Lopez and Vicente alongside him. More midfielders than you can shake a stick at but none of them have a defensive brain cell between them or are capable of winning and keeping the ball against a very physical Sheff Weds side. It was the one occasion when Gus could have brought on Dicker.I was most disappointed with Lopez who has hinted that he can do a stand in job at RB but then looked like a lettuce leaf on 50/50 balls in midfield.

I know many on here think that Liam Trotter is the kind of unit we need but I note he doesn't always start for Millwall and many posts on their forum indicate that his form has been very inconsistent. Realistically Trotter is probably only Championship standard and not going to be at the heart of our drive into the Prem. Ideally we need Gus to find a Sissoko type of player (wishful thinking I know) who is a lump but with pace and not easily knocked off the ball who will boss the midfield. Imagine having someone like that with Bridders. Then you can play Orlandi, Vicente and/ or a winger for 90 mins home or away. Plus you aren't going to concede possession so easily which means you have less pressure on our back four.

Once that is sorted the next priority is a cultured CB with a bit of pace, like VVD.
