We all know that Rooney is a fantastic player, but I think its absolutely ridicolous the amount of money he his going to make from this tournament. At the end of the day I dont think anyone is worth this sort of money and to put it bluntly all these footballers including the England team are greedy little bastards. There needs to be a cap put on what football players can earn, I honestly think that these players are worth 2,000k a week maximium not 25,000 like some of them and the rest.
Do you agree with me that the how money is used in football is out of control, and is sending the wrong message across to young kids dreaming of becoming a footballer?

i think all the money spinning is driven by the agents. Sponshorship deals, product promotions etc.

I honestly believe Rooney just wants to play football regardless of the money. You can tell by the way he plays.

If the money's there due to their talents they're going to want their share.
If Sky paid over a £billion to televise my footballing prowess then I'd want a meaty share of the spoils.

Agreed the money is crazy but I blame the clubs, TV, FA etc not the players.

After all, if someone was willing to pay me some stupid amount for something I liked doing I'm not going to turn it down !

I can't for the life of me find a job worth £25k per week on Jobserve :p

 Hear hear

I had this argument with someone yesterday. Someone was saying his motovation was the money he'll earn. FFS! He's 18 and drives a Ford Ka, knows no fear, and probably doesn't understand - or care - what the difference a 6 figure from a 7 figure salary would do for his life anyway. He wants to run around and kick a ball. Let the bloke concentrate on being a kid - while he is, he'll escape this English disease of self-absorbment and doubt.

So if you were exceptional at your job (of which is in the public eye) and some company came to you saying we'll give you £4 mil to appear in one of our adverts you would then say "No thanks, that's far too much money!"

I for one would snap their hands off!!!

The money they pay sports stars is set aside for promotion purposes anyway so will be spent regardless of whether they give it to him or spend it elsewhere. Paying Rooney £5million doesn't affect the price we pay because they see the extra revenue generated as outweighing that cost anyway.

Personally, I'd prefer the price of a can of fizzy pop to be reduced to 20 pence and razor blades to be given away free of charge.

But I'm a dinosaur.

And what do you need razor blades for, Lord B? :lolol:

Thats not 100% true, yes it is money that they have put aside for promotion but only to be offset against tax. If they charged less for the drinks, they would have less income, have to pay less tax.

how is this good business? does it really bost sales to cover backham's fee just by putting his face on it?! f***ing ridiculous. just don't understand how some people can be so easily bought into buying something with a famous face on it they otherwise wouldn't.

the general public amaszes me.

It is if that individual is loved enough, on leaving Man utd, there sales on shirts went down by 50% in Korea alone! Now if they sell that amount on shirts alone in just one country then 4 million doesnt really sound alot in my opinion!
