Think you will find if you live anywhere non completely rural in South East that you will have no choice in matter and virtually everyone being forced to have one fitted within next year or so. We, and our entire road, have just had one forced upon us by water company!
Gainers will be singles/couples no kids. Losers-families.

Our water bill unmetered was going to be £44 a month ...!
We have had a meter installed and hope it will now be around a quarter of that... (what is normal for a couple + one kid...?)

£11 per month?! Fear you are in for a rude awakening, unless you dont have dishwasher/washing machine/family dont bath/shower.

Mum has a meter to her flat, even with her watering her small garden area only costs her £5 a month. If you have a power shower may be expensive, they use almost as much as a bath.

It is defiantly cheaper, especially in student housing... not that we don't shower, it just has saved us a lot... last year we were paying around £20 a month, this year its about half!

There are hold ups on Franklynn Road Haywards Heath due to them installing water meters in all of the houses up that road during the next 10 weeks. We have had a water meter since our days at a pub in Guildford. In didn't pay then as the water company cocked it up but it has since then and has made us have showers more than baths to save water. I have suggested to wife we should share a shower but she is not too keen, probably down to her being a pensioner but she may have been more agreeable when she was about 30 years old LOL

Don't expect any massive saving if any as metered water is only one part of your water charges account. Sewerage etc. is still charged as before.
I am Southern Water, single occupancy and pay £30.20 per month.
As stated in another post, the more people, car washing and garden hoses (if they were not currently banned) will raise the cost significantly. If you need to water a garden, it might be a good idea to save water from kitchen sink, store in a water butt and use as required.

Southern Water wouldnt spend what they have done installing them, for the good of the customer. The meter charges we'll/we're pay/paying down here are 1 of the highest charges per every m3 used, in the country.

Had water meters for 15 years so not sure on the difference in costings anymore, but i can tell you if you live alone you'll save a bomb by being on a meter, but if you have a large family it'll cost you a bomb being on one.
