Before we start I would like to dedicate our season to two great contrbutors to these NSC cricket threads over the years, who we have lost, Lord Bracknell and Alex, Alex Dawson oo! oo! ( I hope I have got the latter correct). I enjoyed their posts crictical, humourous and disaparing at times. I hope we can inject an once of their input.

I chatted to Ed at football and cricket but did not know Alex, Alex Dawson oo! oo! but believe he may have been called Nigel.

I hope the team and our comments can do you justice, and in NSC chat let the Buffet begin, were doomed..

Another season, one with some hope that a young side can step up under new management with a brilliant track record.

Injurys already with Garton, Sakande and Briggs all out for this first of two away championship games, and Jordan and Archer also away for 5 weeks in India.

The team we have put forward to try and avoid an embarrassing innings defeat is the following.

Will Will Sheffield a 17 year old left arm swing bowler be our next bowling sensation, anyone know where he is from, I assume a local lad.

Hmmmm

I do worry too about proper cricket.

There is nothing better than building to a close finish in a red ball game.
Very much looking forward to the season - but red ball is dying slowly, and the cricket authorities just watch and count their cash. And when England lose, everyone throws up their hands in despair and bemoans the lack of young English talent coming through.

But young English talent are only allowed to play red ball cricket in the colder wetter months of the season. Once past May it’s all white ball until September. At least this season most Championship games are Fri- Mon so a few more of us can see some proper cricket.

Anyway, hope the weather holds up for most games. Sussex and Northants for promotion?

On paper it looks like we are a little light on batting and very light on bowling with our injuries and IPL absentees.
Injury prone Ollie Robinson appears likely to be our most effective bowler. We have Indian seamer Ishant Sharma making his CC debut for us but I wonder how much he will fancy it in cold and damp Birmingham.
I'm expecting us to lose but hope that the Jason Gillespie factor gives all our players a confidence boost and they can somehow get a win. If they are able to walk away from what is arguably one of our toughest fixtures of the season with a win then the feel good factor bounce would be massive.
