This might be a bug in market data - it's showing everywhere but presumably they all use the same source...if it's not a glitch though this feels like it might huge for the global financial system. Berkshire-Hathway prop up a lot, and I think a lot of what they hold is used as collateral too.

So over an hour in and it's still halted and they can't identify the issue. Does this happen a lot?

If only I bought 1 share at 185, its now back at 631,200
Jumped up to 741k in seconds and then dropped 100k seconds later. Already seeing people digging into the data and querying the official reasons given for the 99% price drop, it's amazing how no-one trusts anything official anymore. I've just read that the FDIC reported end of last week that unrealised losses in US banks have gone up from $39 billion to $517 billion in a quarter and the number of problem banks has gone up 20%. Seems like the next failed bank might not be far off and some are seeing in this the signs it's coming. Interesting either way.

As a bit of a curious continuation of this, in the first 1h45m of the market being open today Berkshire Hathaway stock has exceeded the volume of trading it normally sees in an entire day, and is already close to being the second highest volume of trading it's had for the past 4 years with plenty of hours left to trade.

That of course feeds into some of the conspiracies doing the rounds about what really happened yesterday. Could still end up an interesting story maybe.

As I said before Berkshire Hathaway’s value
Is simply based on the shares and cash that it holds. Here is a list

Unless Apple goes bust (40% of the portfolio) there is nothing there that is going to make any major price swings.

Yep - my interest is just that on the day of the glitch it subsequently jumped to an all time high (caused by non-glitch trading), then dropped $100k again back to normal prices (again non-glitch) - that's a pretty substantial price swing of greater than 15% in a couple of hours - and the trading volume in their shares yesterday was abnormally large.

Regardless of what's behind the value of them as a company that's not normal behaviour or price action - something is happening with them. Whether that's meaningful or not I've got no idea but with the number of funds and pensions and everything else invested in them it might become important (or might not).
