From memory Forest were on a coach back from an away game and the coach was passing close to where Wardy lived. He asked the driver to stop whereupon Clough told the driver to carry on without stopping. About two miles further down the road Clough told the driver to stop and let Wardy out and let him walk back down the road for two miles.
As Wardy was getting off the coach Clough was heard to say "With any luck the little C**T will get run over"
It has to be said that Wardy's spell at Forest was not a success and Clough did not rate Wardy. It was the late Peter Taylor who was a big fan.
Yes, Wardy actually told the story at the Centenary dinner - complete with Safeway's favorite 'C' word. Not sure all the ladies present were 100% impressed.
(No good asking Lush becasue she was slumped unconscious across the table by this time)
To elaborate, he was due to be dropped off at Leicester Forest East Services, but Cloughie told the bus driver to carry on. He ended up dropping him off two miles up the road on the M1 so that he had to walk back to the service station in the pissing rain.
