Exactly, everyone needs to calm down, it was a bleedin tin-pot cup game it really doesn't matter, if we want to achieve the best we can then we want to do well in the league, not go really far in the cup. Seriously people, would you rather see us finish mid table with a great cup run or see us get promoted? Easy answer really...

Unless things improve, we will get neither. The team played at Northampton was very week. This was nearly full strength after injuries.

I can see the logic but surely if Gus wants more budget money (which he bleats about on a weekly basis) then the route to that is through possible lucrative cup ties. No cup run, no extra money.

Promotion into the Premier League is worth a minimum £90M

If we play at Hull on Saturday in the same manner as tonight another West Ham style 6-0 drubbing is on the cards. Hopefully, tonight's debacle will be a big wake up call.

I'm sure I read it in the Argus at some stage? Maybe I am just hallucinating! But TV pays well and we had a lot of games on TV along with good home crowds for the cup games, then the Liverpool trip. I bet it wasn't far off. :)
We'll have got £30K from Sky coverage tonight but doesn't it cost a lot of money to host games at the Amex? I'd much rather concentrate on the League than get distracted (Poyet's own words) by a pointless cup run. The higher up the league you finish, the more money you win.

Granted we were lucky with the draws last year (Liverpool trip was FACup) but if we drew Rochdale instead of Sunderland or Liverpool, no TV and half full stadium. Surely cup runs impacted our league form last year, Palace and Leeds after Liverpool game for example?

Fair points.

Lets hope we show more positive attitude on Saturday!

3 wins on the road since September 2011, a 3-0 defeat against a league one side with a performance straight from the end of last season to kick off this season, I'd say if Poyet's words are to have any meaning he either needs to change the way the team plays on the road, or win every single game at the Amex and hope for some bonus points on top of that! I can't see us/him doing either.

No Crofts
No LuaLua
No Buckley
No Mackail-Smith

Fair way off full strength I'd say.
