Want a dog

My sons girlfriend was asked to look after a workmates dog, a Husky. He is White & Grey, listed as fern, He is 6 years old and they have all of his papers but he has been neutered. He is very good with children.

Her house is not big enough to have such a large dog but the owner has told her that it is now her problem. She would love him to go to somebody who has the facility to take him for long walks or let him run on a farm etc as he needs a lot of exercise.

Any body who is genuinely interested in taking him please PM me and I will provide her contact details.

Why did she agree to take the dog if she knew her house wouldn't be big enough?

Good luck finding it a home though.

Because it was originally to look after him for just 6 weeks as the owner was moving but having moved he has decided that he doesnt want to take the dog to his new home and she sees no reason why he should go to either a dogs home or be put down.

The best way to ensure this dog gets a good home is to go through the breeds rescue assoc. They usually have a list of people wanting the breed they deal with, and the assoc. will usually do the vetting process too to make sure the dog goes to a good home.

Here's the link for the national Husky assoc. I hope your son's girlfriend is able to hold onto the dog until she's sure he's going to a good home. Please don't let him go to just anyone. Good luck.

Maybe Berol will want a new dog to replace the one that will be assassinated by a flock of peacocks to avenge their fallen comrades.

The correct answer. Choose a powerful outdoor animal and then treat it like an item of furniture. Prick. Sorry.

Exactly !

Hence my point about ensuring that not just the first person that shows an interest gets the dog. It's vital to do everything possible to ensure dogs go to good homes. There's too many pricks out there unfortunately.

The original owner is a completely irresponisble c**t, hope his FCUKing new house falls on him!:annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

As someone else suggested contact the breed rescue first if you are getting rid of the poor thing. If that fails (I can't see as it would), then try Dogs Trust, but not the RSPCA, a fate worse than death!

I was on a bus today when a man/girl got on with a fairly friendly young dog. You could see it was going to be a big'un, already weighs 4 stone. It's some American breed which will grow to just about the size of a small horse.

Now the owner may have been a chunky girl with the muscles of a navvy, and the dog seemed to be having the right sort of social upbringing but how the hell could you control a fully grown brute of an animal should you ever need to?

the original owner of the dog should have taken the dog back to his house then got hold of someone that wants to look after him

You need to know about all dogs before taking them on but huskies deserve owners who understand the breed and their very particular requirements. Because they aren't as other dogs.

Unfortunately, over the last few years, huskies have become one of those "fashionable" breeds that ignorant people who treat their dogs as an accessory must have. So I'd strongly advise getting in touch with the breed rescue organisation. That way there's a chance of this poor dog getting the decent home he deserves.

Yes, although you could tell my dozy yuppy flatmate that who wants to get one despite being a student and us not having a garden!

"Oh, if I take it for a walk in the morning, it will be fine to be in for the day"

Word.

Having had exactly the same quest, to find a good home for a husky, I realized there are a lot of people who regard a dog like that like a fashion accessory.
The fellow who I eventually gave her to was a scruffy bearded biker who had another husky, and wanted her as a partner (not to breed though). He didn't look like the flashy / expensive tastes sort to be seen with that dog, but he really liked her and was the best home ultimately.

Huskies tend to retain a wild-ish side to them, and are prone to be escape artists. They'll then run in a straight line for miles, before realizing that they're completely lost. It's a breed you have to be aware of for those traits, before entering into ownership of one.

Absolutely spot on. Of course often breeders don't care about their pups' welfare as long as they get their money. It's a pity that some of them can't be forced to be a bit more responsible. It is pathetic the way some people treat large breeds like Huskies as though they were Yorkshire Terriers.
