CAPITAL ONE CUP SECOND ROUND
Venue: Banks's Stadium
Date: Tuesday, 25 August
Kick-off: 19:45 BST

TEAM NEWS

Walsall are set to be unchanged against Brighton in the Capital One Cup as they look for a fifth straight win.

Dean Smith's side are second in League One and beat Nottingham Forest 4-3 at the City Ground in the first round.

Brighton centre-half Connor Goldson is cup-tied after featuring for former club Shrewsbury in their first-round win at Blackburn.

Striker Bobby Zamora has not figured for Brighton since rejoining the club but is close to being in contention.

MATCH FACTS

  • Walsall's first-round win against Nottingham Forest was the first time since 2006 that they have beaten a higher-division side in the League Cup.
  • Brighton have won three of their last four away League Cup games, having lost seven in a row on the road previously.
  • A game has not finished goalless between these two sides since 1969, a run of 35 games.
  • Indeed, Brighton have not been involved in a goalless draw in the League Cup since 1986 (63 games).

On a roll :lolol:
Hope your run continues Stoneham but lots of changes tonight against a side bang in form.

Black ribbon a nice touch.

63 games since we had a goalless draw in the League Cup?

I'm going 0-0, 0-0 AET, Albion squeek through on pens.

I have a bad feeling about tonight with Walsall on such a good run

They are on a great run, tonight will be a very tough match.

Walsall 1 - 1 Oldham
Forest 3 - 4 Walsall
Southend 0 - 2 Walsall
Rochdale 1 - 2 Walsall
Walsall 2 - 1 Coventry

Walsall are currently 2nd in League One only by Goal Difference.

The Bescot will be absolutely rocking this evening. The Super Saddlers have been in magnificent form so far this season and will be buzzing for a Championship giant coming to their home to slay. We will have to be at 90%+ to get a result out of tonights game in my opinion.

I can't stay up that late I'm afraid.
But I will leave the computer on all night so that I can check quickly in the morning.
People seem to think it funny that I got to the trouble of turning my computer off every night.
Surely I can't be the only one who does this.

Going to be a pretty miserable journey up to Walsall for our travelling fans.
Hopefully the ride back down will be more upbeat after we grab those 3 points.

To be fair you probably are ... I think the rest of us would struggle to do it unless we broke into your house.

Can see us losing tonight, but it means we have players fully fit and ready to go for Saturday im not that bothered.

:nono:

I don't get this attitude. A good cup run can go hand in hand with our fine league form.

Mind you we're second in the Championship only on goal difference so can be confident of a good result too

Afternoon, Stoneham, afternoon all.

All set up for a Hughtonesque 1-0 away win. I predict I'll be asleep midway through the second half, partly due to lack of action and partly cause I'm just knackered.

It will be interesting to see what Tom Bradshaw can do against us tonight.

Someone I would have been keen to snap up from league 1 this season.
