Walking Football - Albion in the Community
Hi All,
I just wanted to let you know about our expanding Walking Football programme and some of the opportunities we have for people to come along and take part.
Walking football is growing as a popular sport amongst the over-50s, with AITC-run centres across Sussex. It is a slower paced, non-contact version of the traditional game designed for those who still want to play the sport and keep active. Games are played on small-sized pitches and players are not allowed to run or jog while the ball is in play.
AITC sessions are generally aimed at adults who are 50+ (although we have some which are 65+) and who have an interest in getting more active and getting the buzz of playing football back. We have had a real mix of ages and abilities within each session, with our oldest player topping 71 years you
We currently have 2 different levels of sessions available:
- Blue & White – These sessions are aimed at those who can comfortably walk for 30 minutes or more and are generally more active. The sessions focus on improving mobility, skill development and matches.
'Perfect for those who always loved playing football'
- Red & Black – These sessions are aimed at those who can walk comfortably for less than 10 minutes, are less active or have a health issue which may impair them (i.e. a heart condition or physical injury). The sessions focus on improving mobility, balance and flexibility using football practices.
‘Ideal for those who want to return to sport and activity at a more controlled pace’
We currently have sessions running in Worthing, Arun, Brighton and Haywards Heath, with more planned around the county starting soon.
