I bought a new laptop for £600 quid from currys and took it back because of vista.

I tried to put games on it and it wouldnt let me....actually everything that I tried to do..it just threw up 100 error messages saying it wasnt safe to what I was trying to do.

It wouldnt allow me to put any old software that wasnt vista compatible on it..

So i rang the helpline and they told me that it has been made from scratch and anything old might not work..

So I took the fcuker back and got one with xp....and xp rules.

yeah it is

1) pick up Vista disk and box
2) throw it into nearest bin

problem solved :)

To permanently disable Driver Signing Enforcement, do the following:

Execute from an admin-level command prompt:
bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

Vista is a pain in the arse, especially if you have any bluetooth stuff you want to connect....you have to really mess around with the system to make it install/talk/connect.

Cheers people, turns out it was the acer security thing that was screwing up any downloads, all is fixed now......

I've had few problems with it at home.

But it isn't ready for the work environment yet, we've already had a few compatibility problems.

But Roz it works fine talking to my Canon 350d

And that is one of the reasons why I will never run a Winblows machine for personal use. Any operating system that needs to install or run an application as administrator truly sucks from a security perspective.

Make sure that 'Windows Live Messenger' is being downloaded, that''s the latest version. If that has been and it still doesn't work just take it back as you have a wrong 'un.

Unfortunately virtually all new PCs are being sold with Vista and I have lost count of the number of people who've had problems from Wi Fi Cards to Web Cams and beyond. Microsoft have dropped a huge clanger with Vista and the proof is in the fact that just about No corporate clients have shown any interest in it.

I have a perfectly sound XP system but to migrate to Vista I will have up pay to upgrade a lot of my software let alone some of the stuff that just won;t work with Vista, I dread to think haw many of my peripherals won't function with it. I also think that to get a similar performance on my main PC it will actually be cheaper to replace it rather than upgrade my existing kit.

Girlfriends sister had tons of problems. Your right Microsoft has dropped screwed up with Vista and they know it too.

Most people see no reason to upgrade and are happy with XP, or moving to Apple or trying Ubuntu, which is good.

vista is poo.

tried to make new things but didnt bother in he end due to budget and deadline - new front end and new hw plug n play database - thats about it.

the kernel has not changed since NT !!!!!! so really the OS is still NT but improved a bit.

xp sp2 is the daddy.

I have Vista at work and it's fine

I use XP at home and that's fine too - I see no reason to upgrade, even though I could for free.

All Vista has done (no unlike Office 2007) is added lots of gimicky bits where due partially to poor coding add a lot of overhead to a PC.

My understanding is that the minimum spec for Vista is an 800Mhz Processor with half a gig of ram. The minimum for XP is a 300mhz CPU and 128meg of ram.

I've seen a PC running XP on the above spec and it was nearly unusable. Microsoft have opened a big door not only to Macs but also all the various versions on Linux (which is a hell of a lot cheaper).
